On Tuesday morning, Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings swore in Officer Todd Whited as the City of Hillsboro Police Department Interim Chief.
Whited was sworn in at the mayor’s office at 10 a.m. on Nov. 26 in the presence of retiring police chief Nick Thompson and Hillsboro Safety and Services Director Todd Wilkin. Hastings read the oath, and officer Whited repeated it during the brief ceremony.
“We’re glad to have you take this on,” Hastings said to Whited, “in this time of transition.”
Afterward, Whited said he was happy with his appointment as interim police chief, though he did say it was a surprise.
“I just want to move forward and start working on things,” he said. “Get things back to business.”
The city is in the process of selecting a full time police chief following Thompson’s written notification of retirement, which was announced to the public during a council meeting earlier this month.
Thompson’s last day of service will be Nov. 30.
