The Hillsboro Indians basketball team, led coach Brett Prince, are doing what they do every year; going out every night and expecting to win a league title.

“We expect to win the league.” Prince, who is starting his third year as head coach, said. “We expect it every year. The word rebuilding is never though about around here. We play everyday like we have a shot of winning the SCOL (South Central Ohio League).”

The Indians are starting this season without their main point producer, Jarrod Hart, graduated last year.

“Jarrod was a big piece of this team and losing him is pretty big.” coach Prince said of his leading scorer last year. “We’re going to have to step up as a team to replace those points”

But, even though they lost a piece of their puzzle, coach Prince is hoping that this team’s experience will be able to fill in that hole.

“We lost two guys last year but we have four coming back.” Prince said. “Four of those five were starters last year. I think last year, we we’re a little young and guys were adjusting to this level. This year, these boys aren’t green anymore. They have some experience under their belts and we’re not going to look as young as we did last year because of it.”

The Indians were 11-13 last year overall and coach Prince thinks that if this year’s guys can learn to finish off games, they’ll be able to tally a few more than that this year.

“Of the loses last year, there quite a few where we were in the lead in the fourth quarter and couldn’t hold on to that lead.” said Prince of last year. “I think this year we need to work on sealing the deal when it comes to the last part of the game. If we can do that, we’ll be a successful team.”

The Indians’ coach knows that there is a lot of stiff competition in the league this year and is hoping that fact will prepare them even more for tournament time.

“[Washington] Court House has a lot of guys back , and among them are a lot of athletes.” Prince said on the league this year. “[Clinton] Massie looks solid and even though [Miami] Trace lost a great deal, they’re bringing a lot back. Greenfield also has some size coming back for them this year. There are no weak links in our league, so it’s going to be tough. We have to come out every night prepared. Our league is very physical and I think that it prepares us for when we get to tournament play because that is the kind of game you’re going to find there.”

Coach Prince says that even though his team will have a similar style this year, that doesn’t mean there won’t be a few tweaks here and there.

“I think overall, we’ll have a similar style to the one we played with last year.” said Prince on his team. “We’re going to do a couple things differently on both sides of the ball but our style of play will remain the same.”

The Hillsboro Indians will have their home opener on December 3rd when they play host to Western Brown.
