Highland County Baby Shower

The third annual Highland County Baby Shower, for expectant mothers with babies up to 6 months old, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 at the Hi-TEC Center, Suite 200, 1575 N. High St., Hillsboro.

L-C Board of Ed. meeting

The Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at the board of education building.

Public awarenes program

A public awareness program for Highland Countians will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 25 at the Hi-TEC Center, 1575 N. High St., Hillsboro. The program will focus on ways the public can help the courts and law enforcement, and there will be a speaker from the sheriff’s department. The program will be hosted by Church Women United of Highland County. Anyone wanting to help can call Valetta Doorneweerd at 937-393-5099.

Annual Fish Fry

The Sinking Spring Community Church Men’s Group will be having their Annual Fish Fry on Saturday, April 26 from 4-8 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the church. The menu will include: Fish, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, cole slaw, french fries, hush puppies, assorted desserts and beverages. A freewill donation will be accepted.

Open Door free meal

The Open Door free meal will be held Saturday, April 26 at the Greenfield Methodist Church. Serving will be eat-in only and will begin at 4 p.m. There will be no serving after 4:30 p.m. The menu will be ham, potatoes, hot vegetable, and fruit. Everyone is welcome.

Annual Spring Tea

The Greenfield Historical Society will hold its annual Spring Tea at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at the Konneker Education Center on South St. Presale tickets are on sale for $10 at the Home Building & Loan in Greenfield. They can also be purchased at the door, but seating is limited. For more information, call 937-981-2905.

Johavah’s Witnesses program

The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5241 SR 247, Hillsboro, will hold a Why Would A Loving God Permit Wickedness? program at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 27. It is free and open to the public.

Hospice volunteer classes

Community Care Hospice is offering a new volunteer training class. There are several opportunities that await you: visit patients, caregiver relief, deliver supplies, run errands, assist office staff, fundraising activities. They are looking for applicants in both Clinton and Highland counties. Prospective volunteers must attend three classes on Saturday April 26, May 3 and May 10. Friendship Day

Church Women United will hold May Friendship Day at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 2 at the Northview Baptist Church, 1139 Northview Dr., Hillsboro. The theme is Through God Our Hands Can Serve. Everyone is welcome. For more information call Valeta Doorneweerd at 937-393-5099.

Leesburg Lions Club Bicycle Safety Rodeo

The inaugural Leesburg Lions Club Bicycle Safety Rodeo will be held from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, May 3 (rain date is May 10) at the Fairfield Local Schools elementary parking lot. Free helmets will be given away by Highland District Hospital while supplies last. One boy and one girl will win a bike donated by the Leesburg Free Masons. There will also be a bicycle inspection, helmet fitting, and bicycle safety course. Everyone is invited to the free event.

Hee Haw show at Senior Center

The Highland County Senior Citizens Center’s Hee Haw Gang will presents its popular Hee Haw show with new material Saturday, May 3. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 and food will be available for purchase at Granny’s Rodent Roadhouse. The community is invited. Advance tickets and at-door tickets are available. Call the center at 393-4745 for more details.

HC Poultry Association flea market

The Highland County Poultry Association will be holding its annual flea market on May 3 and 4 at the Highland County Fairgrounds. Many spots will be available for all types of vendors. Food will be sold by the Highland County Poultry Association but other food items may be sold. All spots are 10x12. Cost inside is $30 and outside is $15. HC Retired Teachers Association to hold May meeting

The Highland County Retired Teachers Association will hold their May meeting and luncheon at the Highland County Senior Center, 185 Muntz St., Hillsboro, on Monday the 5th of May. Social hour begins at 11 a.m.; lunch ($8) is served at noon. All retired teachers are welcome. Reservations may be made by calling 393-4591 by Thursday, April 24. The program will feature Cathy Griffith, Director of Southern Ohio Pregnancy Center.

The Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will be holding a family forum in Greenfield. The forums will be meeting at Edgewood Manor, 850 Nellie St., Greenfield, and presented by Ramona Farley, LSW, Alzheimer Association of Cincinnati.

Tuesday, June 10, 3-4 p.m. – Alzheimer’s, Getting a Diagnosis.

Summer activities at the Hillsboro Public Library

Readers of all ages are invited to the Hillsboro Public Library this summer for Fizz, Boom, Read. The library has a whole summer of special events planned, including science experiments, art contests, haunted Ohio spirits, the Pennington Clowns, and the Indoor Dome Theater.

It all starts Saturday, May 31. Register and take part in science experiments, enjoy treats, and get messy from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then visit us each week for a special program in June and July. The finale will be an appearance by Ronald McDonald.

Applications available for AAUW scholarships

The American Association of University Women is accepting applications for educational scholarships for 2014. Eligibility requirements are: Current resident of the Highland County area; applicant must be 21 years of age by July 1, 2014 and must be attending an accredited college or university and give evidence of being enrolled in a degree program.

Applications may be obtained from the libraries in Hillsboro, Lynchburg, Greenfield and Leesburg and Southern State Community College. Deadline for submitting the application is July 1. For any questions or information call 393-8347.
