The fighting in Ukraine is a tragic situation involving the lives of so many. It is one for which all Christ-followers in the real world today should be praying. It brings back recollections of times gone by when President Ronald Reagan visited Germany and in a powerful statement challenged, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” And he did. That was the beginning of the end for what has been known as the Iron Curtain, a line of demarcation separating the East from the West. It seems that the current situation in Ukraine is an attempt on the part of Vladimir Putin to reconstruct that curtain in some ways and in some sense.

Lynchburg Lions hear presentation

The Lynchburg Lions Club held its regular meeting Jan. 9 at the Lions Building in Lynchburg. The club welcomed two guests from Highland District Hospital’s Pathways to Wellness program. The guest speakers were program director Patsi Dick and unit secretary Darlene Teague. They presented an informative program about various mental health issues and the services that are available to the public. Following the presentation the club conducted its regular business meeting. The annual candy sale will soon be completed but reduced-price candy is still available at both the Southern Hills Community Bank and Kratzer’s Pharmacy in Lynchburg. Wilmington College Dean’s List

A number of area students have been named to the dean’s list at Wilmington College for the fall 2022 semester. To be considered for this honor, students must be enrolled full time and have completed the term with a minimum 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Mowrystown FFA honors Leston, Russell

The Mowrystown FFA had many accomplishments and dedicated members through the year of 2022. The chapter would like to recognize two members that have succeeding strongly and have shown the chapter how to be a true and an excellent member. Hunter Leston (left) is the senior winner and Austin Russell is the eighth grade winner.

Fairfield FFA hosts food etiquette program

The Fairfield FFA held an etiquette dinner recently. Leah Hawthorn came in to teach those in attendance about basic table etiquette. She is a certified Master Trainer through The Protocol School of Washington and has 35-plus years of experience. She has taught students from across the world including the United States; Cairo, Egypt; London, England; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Leimuiden, Netherlands; Canada; Mandaluyong, Philippines; Australia; Changuanas, Trinidad and Tobago; and Skopje, Macedonia. Members and supporters were taught about silverware placement, how and when to eat, and how to impress others at the dinner table.
