Hillsboro FFA helps Altrusa

Hillsboro FFA members recently volunteered at the Altrusa Quarter Auction. The members included Brayden Lane, Alex McClarren, Brady Carter, Cole Mason, Corbin Winkle, Chloe Newman, Riley Gallimore, Madison Carroll, Klayton Waits, Peyton Gaines, and Makenna Daulton. During this event the members helped to collect quarters, pass out awards, and were available wherever help was needed. This event taught the FFA members to become versatile, grow leadership skills, problem solving skills and compassion. The members are proud to serve the community and will continue to give back to the place they love most.

Southern State Community College has accepted the invitation to serve as a partner in the Ohio Semiconductor Collaboration Network (OSCN) to be part of a yearlong professional development opportunity. Southern State’s participation will help to accelerate its advanced manufacturing presence in Ohio.

McClain Art Club brightens holidays

The McClain Art Club recently painted windows at the Yusa Corporation in Washington C.H. It’s the fourth year the art club has done the holiday window painting at Yusa, according to art teacher Rachel Soards. The students come up with their own plans and once the paintings are done, Yusa employees vote for their favorites. It’s a bit of community service the students enjoy and, Soards said, “It’s a nice way to kick off the holiday season.” Pictured is the McClain Art Club along with Soards and one the students’ creations.

SSCC students inducted into honor society

The membership of one of higher education’s most recognized honor societies, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), was enhanced by the induction of several new members at a Nov. 16 ceremony held on the Southern State Community College Central Campus.

Hillsboro FFA hosts interview event

The Hillsboro FFA Chapter recently hosted one of its many competitive events for members of the chapter — a job interview event at Hillsboro High School in order for the members to compete with one another while also learning important employment and speaking skills for their futures.

Hillsboro’s Peters wins poster contest

Logan Peters, a senior at Hillsboro High School won the Ross, Pickaway, Highland, Fayette Solid Waste District Poster Contest in honor of America Recycles Day. His artwork shown in this picture will be professionally printed into posters and given to any classroom, business or office space interested.

Hillsboro FFA performs community service

The Hillsboro FFA Chapter recently participated in a community service project held at the local Family Farm and Home store. Customers of Family Farm and Home were able to come into the store on that day and experience a Halloween theme with pumpkin painting, different booths for the event, employees dressed up who passed out candy, and treat themselves to complementary hot dogs and water.
