Field fires pose risk in fall

Because wildfire danger is high in the fall due to abundant dry leaves and dead grass, there is a statewide burn ban from Oct. 1 through Nov. 30 that prohibits outdoor open burning between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The Hillsboro Woman’s Club has existed for 100 years and the group is celebrating the occasion with a tea at the Highland House Museum in Hillsboro on Sunday, Dec. 3, from 1-3 p.m.

Wilkin awarded for volunteer service

At the Volunteer Services Committee meeting held at the Ohio Veterans Home (OVH) in Georgetown recently, Hannah Hopper, OVH volunteer services coordinator, presented Hillsboro area resident Gerold Wilkin with the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and Certificate.

Grant will assist workforce development

Highland County Workforce and Economic Development, the county’s development organization, has been awarded a technology contribution from AT&T. The $15,000 contribution, presented by AT&T Director of External Affairs Mark Romito and administered by the Highland County Community Fund, a geographic affiliate of the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, will enable Highland County to take its workforce development efforts to a new level.

FHS students create barn quilts

LEESBURG — Eighth-graders at Fairfield Middle School presented barn quilts adorning school district buildings they made for a project in a problem based learning class during a barn quilt tour at the district Monday.
