McClain High School’s Haydon Edward Hice (right) is pictured with head coach George Arroyo Jr. signing a letter of intent to play soccer at Ohio Christian University in Circleville. Hice has played soccer since he was 4 years old. He was a starter on the Tiger varsity team all four years. He was named All-Frontier Athletic Conference and second-team all-district freshman year, second-team all-district his junior year and All-FAC and all-district his senior year. He went his whole high school career with perfect attendance at McClain.

The Fairfield Lady Lions took the field Friday in new uniform jerseys seeking their 24th Southern Hills Athletic Conference title and seventh consecutive championship as they faced the North Adams Lady Devils. Fairfield did not disappoint their fans as it defeated its guest in six innings, 11-1.

LEESBURG — The Fairfield Lady Lions returned to Southern Hills Athletic Conference play Thursday as they hosted the West Union Lady Dragons on Senior Night when the Fairfield Athletic Department honored Lady Lion seniors Faith Miller, Sydney Sanders and Jaylie Duncan in pregame ceremonies.

GREENFIELD — The McClain Tigers held the annual Bob Bergstrom Invitational Friday. There were two-thirds of the Frontier Athletic Conference with Hillsboro, Miami Trace, Washington and McClain, as well as Fairfield, Adena, Paint Valley and Circleville.

Clays event helps with PTSD, veteran suicide

Operation Cherrybend hosted a fundraiser April 15 at Cherrybend Pheasant Farm to raise funds for veteran outreach events in the battle against PTSD and veteran suicide. The sporting clays tournament sponsored by Air Transport Services Group Inc. resulted in 14 teams, 56 participants and 18 volunteers taking part. Teams competed in a shotgun start with 50 targets. The winner of the tournament was Team Avenger with a score of 169 followed by Team Warren with a 168 and Connover Trucking 1 with a 161. The high shooter was Bruce Warren with a 45. The firearm Golden Ticket Giveaway Shoot-off winner was Kameron Lafferty, who won a Winchester SX4 shotgun in an exciting competition. The next Operation Cherrybend event will be a golf outing at Buckeye Hills on June 10.
