Check It Out

October is the start of our busy holiday season here at the Leesburg Library.

We hope our young readers through fourth grade will sign up for our Get Frozen reading program starting on Saturday, Oct. 1. Come in and register to learn about the rules and get your reading log. Upon completion, you will receive a ticket to attend our winter holiday program at the Leesburg Library on Saturday, Dec. 3.

We will be having a Paper Bag Mask Decorating Contest this month for kids and teens. Paper bags will be available for pick-up at our front desk starting Oct. 1. Decorate your bag using any medium (paint, markers, feathers, etc.) you choose. Write your name and phone number on the back of the bag and turn it in by Friday, Oct.19. Prizes will be awarded.

Knit Together continues to meet on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feel free to join the fun.

The library will be closed Monday, Oct. 10 in observance of Columbus Day. Please use our outdoor book drop to return items.

Our Sparx Teen Book Group will meet Thursday, Oct. 13 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Join us for food and some frightfully good fun. The book being discussed is “One For The Murphys” by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. All Leesburg area teens in the seventh grade and up are invited to attend.

Our adult book group, RRR, will be having a lunch outing this month at The Willows in Washington C.H. on Thursday, Oct. 20. Members are to meet at the restaurant at 11:30 a.m.

Join us for a spooktacular evening with Appalachian Paranormal Explorations (APEX) from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20. They will describe their ghost encounters from haunted locations in our area.

We hope you will be able to trick or treat with us Thursday, Oct. 27 from 6-7 p.m. Please note that we are closed during the last hour of Beggar’s Night, so if you want to get some treats from the library, you will need to arrive prior to 7 p.m.

Story times continue every Thursday at 10 a.m. for Wee Ones and 10:30 a.m. for Tater Tots. Our themes this month include Teddy Bear Tea (bring a teddy bear), Fire Prevention, Creatures of the Night and Happy Halloween (wear a costume). Stop by our front desk or call us with questions about our fun story times.

We look forward to your stopping by the Leesburg Library this month for some spine-tingling fun. See you soon.
