Free flights Saturday for kids 8-17

The Highland County Pilots’ Association, in conjunction with the EAA of Clermont County, will host its annual Young Eagles event Saturday, April 29 at the Highland County Airport when children ages 8 to 17 can fly for free.

In the event of inclement weather, the rain date is Sunday, April 30.

Children are asked to arrive at 9 a.m. to register and be assigned a pilot and airplane. There may be waiting before the flight, so there will be other activities to keep the kids occupied.

Parents will be able to photograph their children before and after the flights.

“The thrust of the event is the opportunity of beginning a mentoring relationship with a youngster truly interested in flight as a career option,” the pilots’ association said in a news release. “The pilots want to give interested children time to see if the flying or a related area is something they want to pursue or choose. The event is geared to getting you people excited and engaged in the idea of a career in flight.”

In addition to a certificate the Young Eagles will receive, the young flier will be given a logbook with an access code for a complete free online flight training course offered by Sporty’s.

Additional information about the EAA and the EAA Young Eagles program is available online at www.youngeagles.org.
