Students at St. Mary Catholic Elementary School are shown waiting to enter a smoke trailer to learn home evacuation techniques for a fire safety class. The students recently participated in state-required fire drills at the school with firefighters from Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District. Branden Jackman, Paint Creek public information officer, said firefighters blocked certain exits in the building, requiring the students to use secondary exits. Jackman said the students evacuated in one minute and 30 seconds. “They handled it quite well,” Jackman said.
