FFA members compete at fair

Hillsboro FFA members exhibit sheep, dairy cattle and participated in Tractor Rodeo at 2017 Highland County Fair.

The Hillsboro FFA had three members exhibit market lambs. These exhibitors including Lizzy Mahan, Lauren Grover and Lana Grover started off their fair week by participating in the sheep skillathon on Tuesday. Next, they competed in showmanship Mahan was fourth and Lana Grover was second. On Thursday the members exhibited their lambs in the market lamb show. Mahan placed fifth in her class, Lauren Grover was fourth and Lana Grover placed fourth.

Joe and Spencer Rudy, also members of the Hillsboro FFA, exhibited dairy cattle at the fair. In showmanship, Spencer Rudy placed third in his class. In the dairy show, Spencer Rudy had a second in class as well as a fifth. Joe Rudy participated and had two third place heifers.

Joe Rudy said, “ I love this time of year. Fun times with great people.”

The Hillsboro FFA also had members participate in the Tractor Rodeo contest. These contestants were Joe Rudy and Spencer Rudy. During the contest the members had to drive a garden tractor connected to a wagon through a specific obstacle course. The contestants are judged on speed and safety techniques. Joe Rudy participated and won second in his division.

Spencer Rudy participated and said, “ It was a great learning experience and I had a lot of fun.”
