Empower Youth visits Lynchburg-Clay Elementary

0

On Monday, March 26, a group from Empower Youth came to Lynchburg-Clay Elementary School. Empower Youth’s Dream Big program tackles the the negative impact a lack of sleep, or poor quality of sleep, can have on students.

Being unable to concentrate, fatigue and hyperactivity are just a few of the many side effects. Children who don’t get proper sleep are much more likely to struggle in school, both academically and behaviorally.

Scott and Lori Conley, Empower Youth, talked to the students about being able to sleep well at night and how important it is to get enough sleep. Lori asked the students to think about what they wanted to be when they grow up. After many suggestions, Lori again reminded the students of the hard work it takes and how important good sleep is to achieving those dreams.

The pillows were donated by Multicolor in Norwood. The pillowcases were tie-dyed by the Grant Career Center in Bethel. They were stuffed into bags by the Bethel Tate softball team. The animals came from Lights of Hope.

The students were reminded to drem big each night as they lay their head down – they can be anything.

The Empower Youth program can always use your help by making a monetary donation, sewing pillowcases, donating new stuffed animals, or another type of volunteer opportunity. For more information on this amazing program, visit https://empoweryouth.me/dream-big/.
