Fairfield attends National FFA Convention

On Oct. 24, 25 members of the Fairfield FFA Chapter left for the 91st National Convention and Expo.

The first stop for Fairfield was Jungle Jim’s International Market. The FFA members were given a tour of the supermarket and a behind the scenes look at how the business operates. The chapter then visited the Gaiser Bee Company in Cincinnati. Members looked around the urban farm and learned about the processes in the beekeeping industry. Fairfield also attended the Cinch World Toughest Rodeo on Wednesday night. On Thursday the chapter attended a session where they heard from motivational speaker Kyle Scheele. They ended the day with a trip to Dave and Busters.

Friday morning the members headed to the Indianapolis Children Museum where they explored and learned about the impact that young people can have on the world around them. Later that evening the chapter visited Traders Point Creamery, a small organic, urban farm in Indianapolis. They learned about the farm’s operation as well as cheese making and the milking process.

On Saturday, the members headed to eighth session to watch their American Degree recipients. These recipients included Ryan Matthews, Lane Frost, Brayden Heizer and Keith Thompson. They then headed to the ninth session to show their support to Ryan Matthews as he ran for national office. Although Matthews didn’t receive a spot on the team, the Fairfield FFA was honored to be able to be there to support him and watch him progress to the top 25.

They also had the honor of hearing from the United States President Donald Trump. This was an amazing, once in a lifetime experience for the members. They also got to hear from Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.

The Fairfield FFA had an amazing trip to Indianapolis and is excited to see what next year will hold.
