Hillsboro Elks 361 initiated a Student of the Month program with the Highland County high schools for the 2015-16 school year. Schools were asked to pick a senior student with an excellent community service record, on top of academics and extracurricular activities. Here are the winners:

October: Hillsboro – Cloe Elizabeth

November: Lynchburg-Clay – Madison Smith

December: Hillsboro Christian Academy – Michael Mountjoy

January: Whiteoak – Regan Bohrer

February: Fairfield – Seth Allen

March: Greenfield McClain – Anna Louise Ehlers

Each of the students were eligible to submit an application for the Elks Southwest District Volunteerism Award. Out of those applications submitted, Anna Louise Ehlers from Greenfield McClain was chosen Student of the Year and her application moved on to the state level to compete for a $1,000 scholarship to the college of her choice. Anna is the daughter of Dave and Grace Ehlers of Greenfield.

The first week of May is Youth Appreciation Week and Hillsboro Elks 361 commends the hard work of the young people countywide.
