Garden Club closes out 2015

The Hillsboro Garden Club met on Dec. 9 at the Ponderosa Steak House for our final event before our winter hiatus. President Nancy Baldwin welcomed everyone and invited members and guests to partake of our meal before a short business meeting. While we enjoyed our meal, judges considered and decided on winners in the Gift Wrapping Contest. Prizes went to Teresa Cudkowicz for Most Original, Nancy Baldwin for Prettiest, Dena Benner for Prettiest Gift Bag, Andrea Schneider for Most Creative and Carol Gorby for Most Unusual. Following the meal, Larry Moore led the group in selection and stealing of gifts. If was lots of fun, with lots of steals!

A very short business meeting ensued with 12 members and two guests in attendance. Larry Moore displayed his arrangement for tonight. It was a bell-shaped construction covered with silver tinsel and a huge red bow. Concealed among the tinsel was a string of solar lights. This arrangement would ultimately become part of our Holiday Parade decor by attaching it to the truck pulling the float.

Other items of interest discussed were the postponement of the Holiday Parade until Dec. 12; Nancy Sonner, Carol Gorby, Andrea Schneider and Ruth Anna Duff attending the Open House at Deer Creek State Park Lodge to document our decorating efforts; and sending good wishes to Ruth Anna Duff in her continued recovery.

Teresa Cudkowicz provided six beautiful ornaments, hand-stitched by her, to auction amongst the group with profits going to the Highland County Humane Society Shelter in the Garden Club’s name. Thanks to Teresa for this thoughtful and generous donation A surprise drawing sent both Mary Smith and Nancy Baldwin home with a beautiful poinsettia.

Meeting was adjourned and everyone left with gifts in hand, a full tummy, and looking forward to two months of rest before meeting again on March 28, 2016.
