A proclamation was signed by the Highland County Board of commissioners Wednesday establishing the month of April as Clean-up, Fix-up, Pick-up Month for the Rocky Fork Lake area.
Established by the Rocky Fork Lake Community Alliance, the group hopes to encourage residents of the RFL area to keep the community clean.
"We are declaring the month of April as a cleanup month and hoping that people, under their own initiative, will follow through up until May," Earl Hughes, vice president of the Rocky Fork Lake Community Alliance, said.
"Our thinking of it is to just get it instilled in the people in the lake area to start fixing up their own place and the area. Just cleaning up their own area and mowing the grass," Hughes said.
Hughes said that April 14, 21 and 28, community corrections will go through the area and clean the ditches along the roads.
Dori Bishop, Highland County Recycling director, also planned on assisting residents of the area in disposing of junk cars, unused trailers and other scrap metal material for recycling purposes, Hughes said.
He also said that sometime during the first week of May, the alliance is planning on organizing a lake cleanup, where groups will clean litter and debris from around the lake and inside the lake.
The Rocky Fork Lake Community Alliance is a non-profit organization established by Rocky Fork Lake area residents to assist with improvements of the residential and lake area in cooperation with county officials, township trustees and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The alliance has identified residential property clean up and beautification, crime issues, evaluating public services for future growth and promoting quality of life as areas to address for future projects.
