Three sealed bids for the construction of a new sewer pump station on the north shore of Rocky Fork Lake were opened by the Highland County Board of Commissioners during the board's regular meeting Wednesday.
Bids for the project were received from Downing Construction of Baltimore, Ohio at $166,313.60, Cooper's Excavating of Winchester at $131,750, and Unger Construction of West Union at $122,512.
Although the commissioners did not discuss a start date for the project, Commissioner Mike Rector said that early steps could be taken as soon as the bids were awarded.
"We are going to review the bids and make sure they match, and as soon as we award the bids we can get started," he said. "The supplier of the pump will have to get ahold of a pump, which could take a while. But they should be able to get started soon."
Several individuals who are planning to build townhouses on North Shore Drive are contributing to the cost of the pump, which will allow their homes to be attached to the Rocky Fork Lake sewage system, Rector said.
During the meeting, the commissioners also received a request from the Paint Township Board of Trustees asking that Cummings Lane, located off of Snake Road in Paint Township, be closed.
The township road, which dead-ends near the Paint Creek Reservoir, is not often used.
Rector said that according to government mandates, the county will hold a public viewing and hearing regarding the road before they make any decision regarding the closing of the road. The viewing is scheduled for Dec. 19 at 10 a.m., with a hearing following at the commissioners' office at 11:30 p.m.
"We're asking area land owners for feedback, if they have any comments or objections," he said. "I don't know how many users travel on it, but I know it's not a main road."
Among other budget resolutions, the board transferred $16,379 to the Highland County Juvenile Detention Center Debt Retirement Budget, $22,898 to the Highland County Airport Debt Retirement Budget, $38,468.49 to the Various Purpose Debt Retirement Budget, and $19,192 to the Highland-Leesburg Debt Retirement Budget.
Transfers of $9,312 to the Madison Township Debt Retirement Budget and $8,854 to the Highland County GIS Debt Retirement Budget were also approved during the meeting.
