Girl Scouts hold recognition, bridging ceremony at Liberty Park

Hillsboro Service Unit, part of Girl Scouts of Ohio Heartland Council, recently held its recognition and bridging ceremony at Liberty Park in Hillsboro. The sunshine and wind couldn't have been stronger. Cadet and senior girls started things off with the Pledge of Allegiance and proceeded taking turns reciting the Girl Scout mission.

Lois Crowthers announced the troops one-by-one to the stage beginning with the two troops bridging from brownie Girl Scouts to junior Girl Scouts which were Misty Elam and Kim Cooper's Lynchburg Brownie Troop 50359 and Kristen Rodgers and Amanda Parker's Hillsboro Brownie Troop 594. Troops not bridging, but recognized from youngest to oldest were Megan Parson and Jessica Jones' Daisy Troop 2113, Jennifer Jarnigan and Marsha Williams' Daisy Troop 1584, Alexis Kirk and Jennifer Howland's Brownie Troop 1845, Krissy Harmon and Melissa Collins' Brownie Troop 50210, Misty Elam and Kim Cooper's Brownie Troop 503591, Kara Stewart and Missy Stewart's Junior Troop 688, Stacy Butler and Gail Throckmorton's Cadet Troop 2407 and Lois Crowthers and Sue Higham's Cadet/Senior Troop 50128.

Girl Scout Field Executive Julie Meritti announced her relocation out of the Hillsboro area into a service unit closer to her home. She was recognized for her many years of hard work, training, guiding, counseling and encouraging Girl Scout leaders and assistant leaders. Meritti was given a basket of flowers and a scrapbook with each page representing a different troop she had worked with.

New Girl Scout Field Executive Becky Chandler was welcomed with a basket of flowers. Cookies and punch were enjoyed to close out the evening.

Also new to Girl Scouts in this area is a bigger service unit that will include Hillsboro. Lynchburg, Greenfield, and Bright Local school districts. With new troops comes new leaders and new and exciting ideals for Girl Scouts to discover and explore. A total of seven new troops with 70 girls will combine with the Hillsboro Service Unit team and will now be known as the Highland Hills Service Unit. It is an exciting time to be a Girl Scout so if your daughter or granddaughter would enjoy Girl Scouts, contact Becky Chandler at (800) 866-2246.
