Eight-year-old Cheyenne Watson, of Leesburg, grabbed her second buckle in her young rodeo career this past November.
She started rodeoing at the age of 4, where she walked away as the girls champion sheep rider, in her first rodeo.
In 2007, she grabbed the buckle for the girls champion dummy roper, where she had to stand 8-10 feet away and rope a calf head.
Watson, along with her horse Twisty and parents Jim and Daphne Watson, travel three hours to Kimbolten, where she rides every other weekend, starting in June.
Cheyenne competes in barrels, poles, down-and-back, dummy roping and advance goat tail tying.
Cheyenne works hard to get herself and her horse ready for the season. In 2008, she hopes to get more buckles to add to her other two.
The rodeo she is involved with is Ohio Youth Rodeo, also known as the Rocky Fork Rodeo Company.
They have over 90 youth members ranging from kindergarten-12th grades.
If anyone is interested in getting involved call either Jim or Daphne Watson at 937-509-1866. Daphne is the goat tying manager and Jim is the steer wrestling manager.
They offer events for everyone, barrels, poles, goat tying, goat tail tying, bull riding, steer riding, down-and-back, steer daubing, chute dogging, steer wrestling, dummy roping, calf roping, breakaway roping and team roping.
The events are divided by grade, and are for girls and boys, kindergarten-second grade, third-fifth grade, sixth-eighth grade and ninth-12th grade.
