Two of six seniors will be named 2016 queen and king, respectively, when the Hillsboro Indians host their annual homecoming football game Friday at Richards Memorial Field.

The football game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and will pit the East Clinton Astros (0-4 and 0-7) against Hillsboro (0-4, 1-6) in a South Central Ohio League tilt.

Pregame activities will begin with a small parade around 6:45 p.m. The procession will march down the paved road behind the home bleachers at the football field then take a couple quick lefts into the stadium. It will proceed around the field, stopping in front of the visitor’s bleachers to drop the attendants and queen and king candidates off. They will be introduced as they walk across the field.

The king and queen remain unknown until their names are announced on the field that evening.

The senior queen candidates are Emily King, Mallory Overberg and Taylor Remsing. The king candidates are Case Cameron, Hunter Chain and Daniel Jacky. The freshman attendants are Katie Condo and Joe Helterbrand, the sophomore attendants are Ashley Taylor and Tyler Workman, and the junior attendants are Zeta Boyer and Devon Gallimore.

The homecoming dance is from 8-11 p.m. Saturday at the high school gymnasium. Tickets are $5 each.

“We’ll have a deejay and he’ll do some limbo, Congo, and some other interesting things to try to get the kids moving,” said Mel Pitzer, a retired teacher who helps organize homecoming activities.

Before all that there will be bonfire Thursday evening on the practice football field at the former school site off West Main Street. Pitzer said the evening will start around 5:30 p.m. with cornhole and other activities with the bonfire taking place around dark.

There will be “powder puff” and “beefcake” ultimate Frisbee games between the freshmen and sophomores on Thursday and between the juniors and seniors on Friday.

It has been a fun week at the high school with students dressing according to various themes each day. Monday was Pajama Day, Tuesday was Cowboy and Indian Day, Wednesday is Hollywood Glam Day, Thursday is Fictional Character Day and Friday is Red and White Spirit Day.
