SATH auction raises $10,000

More than $10,000 was raised Saturday during the 18th annual SATH Charity Auction held at the Highland Fairgrounds in Hillsboro, SATH Executive Director Linda Allen said Monday.

“We have a few expenses left to be paid, but we should finish with over $10,000,” Allen said. “We usually make $7,000 to $10,000. We set our goal for $10,000 this year, so we made that.”

SATH sold pulled pork sandwiches, homemade French fries, chili and other food to help supplement the auction income, and Allen said volunteers provided child care services in the 4-H Building on the fairgrounds so parents could enjoy the auction more easily.

“I really want to thank the community for their support of the auction,” Allen said. “The people that brought stuff and donated it to the auction stuck around and bought stuff, too. So not only did they donate stuff, but they turned around and bought things. That’s how KAMP Dovetail happens. I have hit this community up so many times, and they never say no. The auctioneers and others donating their time helps, too.”

Allen singled out Twila Smith, who she said starts in December working on the auction by sending out letters requesting donations from local businesses, makes follow up calls, then goes back and picks items up. She said Smith collected more than 60 gift certificates and most all of the new items the auction had to offer.

She also singled out the auction crew of Glenn Hess, Brad Hess, Kim Hess and John Grover and local businessman Mike Morgan for donating their time at the auction.

Next up for SATH is the second annual bowling tournament that will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 26 at Highland Lanes in Hillsboro.

Last year the event raised nearly $1,000, Allen said.

The cost for the tournament is $35 per person or $150 per team and all proceeds benefit KAMP Dovetail, the five-day, four-night summer camping and outdoor experience held for more than 300 special needs kids each June at Rocky Fork State Park.

Allen said teams of four will compete for prizes and there will also be a silent auction. For more information call 937-725-2010, 937-763-0081 or email [email protected].
