A Hillsboro man is facing multiple charges – including a first-degree felony for burglary – and being held on $75,000 bond following an incident that allegedly happened early Friday morning.
An affidavit filed with Hillsboro Municipal Court stated that the Highland County Sheriff’s Office responded to incident at a Prospect Road residence shortly before 4 a.m.
Once the deputy arrived on the scene, a male subject – later identified as Joshua A. Bishop, 30, Hillsboro – allegedly stated “it was all his fault” and told law enforcement “to do with him what (the deputy) wished,” according to the affidavit.
The affidavit added that Bishop had blood on his left hand, shirt, and shorts.
According to the report, the alleged victim reported that Bishop “had been calling (and) harassing her at work all night.”
She reported that when she got home, Bishop allegedly “came out of nowhere, grabbing (her) cell phone from her hand (and) throwing it to the ground, breaking it,” according to the affidavit.
He then allegedly “forced her back into the vehicle where he began choking her,” the affidavit added.
A relative of the alleged victim reportedly arrived on the scene and was “able to pull (Bishop) from on top of (the alleged victim).” The two then waited in the vehicle for HCSO to arrive.
Further investigation reportedly led to the discovery of a damaged exterior light fixture with blood on it. The deputy “conclude(ed) (Bishop) had cut himself while attempting to pull it from the residence,” according to the affidavit.
Blood was also reportedly located at other areas, both in the house and in a garage. The officer also reported that two doors had been forced open.
Also reportedly found was a cell phone belonging to Bishop plugged into the wall of a bedroom. It was covered in blood as well, the affidavit added. Blood was also reportedly found in the involved vehicle.
According to the affidavit, Bishop was previously ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim. The affidavit stated that an order of protection was placed into effect by the Highland County Common Pleas Court in May.
Bishop is charged with first-degree felony aggravated burglary, first-degree misdemeanor violating a protective order, first-degree misdemeanor assault, and second-degree misdemeanor criminal damages.
A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 6. Pretrials on his misdemeanor charges are also scheduled for that time.
Bishop’s bond is set at $75,000. If he posts that bond, he will be placed on electronic monitoring house arrest.
He must report to the probation department and observe a curfew. He is prohibited from having contact with the alleged victim or the reported witness.
