Clinton County native Beth Ellis of Sabina has announced her candidacy for state representative from the 91st House District.
Ellis will seek the Republican nomination next year when current state representative and Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger will vacate the seat at the end of 2018 due to term limits.
Ellis and her husband are farmers as well as co-owners of Cherrybend Pheasant Farm, where Ellis manages the day-to-day operations, according to a press release. The Ellis family has a long history of farming in Clinton County. As president of the Clinton County Farm Bureau, she said keeping an “ardent focus” on issues affecting agricultural communities will be a top priority.
“I have had the great privilege of serving our community in a variety of ways that have given me a clear vision of the needs and challenges facing our community,” she said. “My experiences from agriculture to business management, and healthcare to aviation, give me a knowledge base to draw upon for helping at the state level in any way that I can. Speaker Rosenberger has and will continue to be a tremendous inspiration and resource for maintaining the continuity of progress for the 91st District.”
In addition to operating Cherrybend, Ellis is the vice-chair of the Clinton County Port Authority and serves on the board of directors for the Clinton County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, focused on promoting tourism in southwestern Ohio.
“She would also bring a deep understanding of health care with her to the Statehouse having worked at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Radiology for over 16 years,” according to the press release.
Ellis left the hospital to run the family business (Cherrybend) full time “and has extensive experience in the intricacies of small business ownership,” according to the release. During this time, she also became a licensed private pilot. Recently, Ellis has started “Operation Cherrybend” in conjunction with the Flight Deck Veterans Group, which is a week-long veteran event designed to bring awareness to the everyday struggle veterans face when returning home and to the high suicide rate of returning soldiers.
“Beth Ellis is the ideal choice to continue the work I have done to move the 91st District forward. With her experience including medicine, small business ownership, agriculture, and philanthropy, there is no better choice to accurately and thoroughly represent the people of the 91st House District,” Rosenberger said in the release. “Beth will be an outstanding advocate for my constituency, and I have full confidence in her to work for the people of Highland, Clinton, Pike, and Ross counties and be sure that their voices are heard in Columbus.”
Ellis and her husband, Matt, reside on a farm near Sabina and have two children.
