‘Thumbs up’ for Highland County Fair week

The 2017 Highland County Fair came to a close over the weekend, and Highland County Senior Fair Board Member Charlie Davidson deemed it a success.

“It was a good fair,” Davidson said. “The weather was great, the crowds were good.”

Other than a ride malfunction at the beginning of the week that resulted in minor injuries, Davidson said he’s heard no reports of issues.

“Everything went pretty smooth,” he said. “And you couldn’t ask for better weather… Well, maybe an extra five degrees… But the rain held off good, it was dry all week, other than when it rained at about 3 a.m. one night, but that didn’t bother the crowds any.”

Davidson said he doesn’t know how many people showed up, but it compared well to previous years.

“I’d say the crowd for the week was probably average,” he said. “I don’t know how many that is. We haven’t got the total count yet, but it was an average year.”

When it comes to plans for next year, Davidson said he doesn’t anticipate any big changes, but discussions haven’t yet begun.

“It’s a little bit too early, I guess,” Davidson said. “We haven’t had a board meeting to discuss anything.”

Davidson extended his appreciation to those who were in attendance.

“I’d just like to thank everybody for coming out to support the fair and the junior fair,” Davidson said.
