Juvenile arrested for Hillsboro Walmart robbery

A 17-year-old suspect was recently taken into custody following a robbery at Walmart in December, according to police, and authorities have recovered a pellet/BB gun believed to have been brandished by one of the thieves.

Hillsboro Police Chief Darrin Goudy would not release the name of the second male suspect since he is a juvenile.

Kasey Shandel Wright, 18, was arrested in December after he allegedly brandished what appeared to be a firearm at the Hillsboro Walmart before he and the 17-year-old reportedly took two cartons of cigarettes from the bullpen area where tobacco is sold, according to Goudy.

Goudy said the juvenile was taken into custody without incident later in the month and held at a juvenile detention center.

Wright is still listed as incarcerated at the county jail with a $100,000 bond.

According to Goudy, police recovered a pellet/BB gun that they suspect was the one Wright brandished during the robbery.

“It was not a real firearm,” he said. “It was a pellet gun, a BB gun, that style, but we haven’t confirmed that it was the one.”

Wright is charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, Goudy said, and the juvenile is charged with the same.

Goudy said the case will be presented to a Highland County Grand Jury.
