Two facing assault charges

A Hillsboro man and woman were arraigned on charges of assault in the Hillsboro Municipal Court on Monday.

According to an affidavit filed with the court, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an assault last week. The alleged victim reportedly told the deputy that Megan and Aaron Engle, both 29, came to his residence on Sept. 7.

He said the Engles came there “to drop (Megan Engles’) kids off,” the affidavit stated. When the alleged victim said he could not watch them, Megan Engle reportedly became unhappy, began yelling, and then shoved the alleged victim, the affidavit added.

At that time, Aaron Engle allegedly “got out of his car and came toward (the alleged victim), throwing punches at him,” as stated in the affidavit.

The Engles allegedly “ended up on (the alleged victim’s) back,” according to the affidavit. Another individual then reportedly tried to break up the fight.

The affidavit stated that Aaron Engle got off of the alleged victim, “but Megan (Engle) was still on his back, choking him from behind.”

Aaron Engle then allegedly kicked him, which resulted in a black eye, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit added that the alleged victim contacted the sheriff’s office after the Engles later left.

They were both charged with first-degree misdemeanor assault, according to court records. Warrants for their arrest were issued last Wednesday, records showed.

On Monday, the Engles appeared on their charges. Their bonds were set at their own recognizance (OR). Both must observe a curfew and are prohibited from having contact with the alleged victim or the other involved party. Pretrials are set for next month.
