While some of the details still are apparently being worked out, there will be a flurry of activity when the Hillsboro Uptown Business Association hosts its annual Hillsboro Lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The parade will start at 6 p.m. from the Highland County Fairgrounds and should arrive in the center of town around 6:25 to 6:30 p.m., according to Bon Appetit Gourmet Shoppe & Gifts owner Joe Mahan, who is in charge of the parade this year.

The parade is open to anyone as long as they fill out an application. They are available at Bon Appetit at 117 W. Main St., Hillsboro, or by calling Mahan at 937-403-3715.

In addition to the parade, there will be a show with more than 30 vendors in The Times-Gazette Community Room, wagon/carriage rides, a pet parade, pet adoptions, and various activities in the uptown area prior to the parade for children and others, although no one seemed sure of the details Tuesday.

The wagon/carriage rides will be free and will be offered in the uptown Hillsboro area from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

The pet parade is being sponsored by Merchants National Bank in the uptown firehouse at the intersection of North High Street and Governor Trimble Place. Registration starts at 3 p.m. and the parade starts at 4 p.m. There are five categories: A Dog Gone Christmas, Best Group of Holiday Pets, Winter Wonderland, Rockin’ Holiday and North Pole Pet.

Set up for the vendor show begins at 2 p.m. and the show runs from 3 p.m. until after the parade. Vendors include: Thirty-One, Paparazzi, Books and More, Wreaths Etc., Color Street, Sewn Items, Farmhouse Fresheners, Brushing Up by H&K, Primitive Design, Heathers Light Candles, Vyla Rose Designs, Mary Kay, Primerica, Red Aspen, Handmade Crafts, Faith’s Boutique, Three Zs Crafts, Norwex, Red K Ranch, Pampered Chef, Advocare, Kitty Red Jewelry, Sweet Stuff Home Bakery, Prussia Goats Milk Soap, Massage Chair, Avon & Lilla Rose, Let’s Glo Crazy, Olde Cellar, Scentsy, Perfectly Posh, Oragami Owl, Gypsy In Me and The Crafty Ginger Mom.

Parade lineup for everyone except walking units is at the Highland County Fairgrounds. The walking units like bands, scouts, etc. will lineup at the lower parking lot on the former Hillsboro High School grounds and join the parade from there.

The theme for the parade is A Dog Gone Christmas.

The parade will turn from the fairgrounds onto Fair Street, turn left on Elm Street, turn left onto West Main Street, turn left on North High Street, turn left onto Catherine Street and then had back to where it started.

Mahan said there would be other activities going on pretty much all afternoon.

“Hopefully, everyone will come out and have a good time,” he said.
