A man who dropped a bag containing drugs after being spotted Wednesday afternoon by a police officer was last scene running toward Highland County, according to reports.

New Vienna Police Chief Clint Brown said he was on patrol when he saw a white male near the back of the old elementary school in the village.

“I knew it wasn’t the owner. I drove up to him and when he saw me, he pulled off his hat and he bolted,” Brown said, adding that it “wasn’t anyone I recognized or am familiar with.”

A foot chase started on South Second Street in New Vienna. Brown said the suspect ran into the woods and followed the tracks to a driveway off Rollins, then went back into the woods. He was last seen running into traffic on SR 73 at the Highland County line.

Officers from the Highland County and Clinton County sheriff’s offices responded to assist in the search.

Brown said the suspect dropped a small shopping bag that contained a variety of prescription-type pills, a bag of marijuana, a bag of seeds, a marijuana pipe, scales and six syringes, two of which had been used very recently.

The contents of the bag are being sent to Bureau of Criminal Investigation in London, Ohio and checked for fingerprints, he added.

Anyone having information about the suspect is asked to contact the New Vienna Police Department or Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.
