Temporary custody of two children was granted to Highland County Children Services on Monday, a case based on a complaint alleging sexual abuse of one of the children.
According to Highland County Assistant Prosecutor Molly Bolek, for the last couple months the children have been placed in kinship care outside their home under a safety plan, which is a situation where parents voluntarily allow the children to be placed elsewhere but retain legal custody. Recently the household where the children were placed met its formal approvals, so the children are able to remain there, Bolek said.
The case began a couple months ago after allegations were made to Children Services that one of the children had been sexually abused by the father. Other allegations included concerns of the father’s mental stability.
The matter will again come before the Highland County Juvenile Court next month.
In other hearings, a 15-year-old female admitted to misdemeanor assault. A charge of domestic violence was dismissed.
She has a suspended commitment to detention and will be on community control indefinitely. The 15-year-old must also complete an anger management course.
The teen spent about two weeks in detention following the incident involving a physical altercation with a parent, which took place two months ago.
A 14-year-old male admitted to fifth-degree felony breaking and entering, but his punishment will come from the Franklin County Juvenile Court as that is the county of his residence.
