A benefit for local hunter Jobey Lucas, who was seriously injured during a deer stand accident in November, will be held next month.

Scott Lewis, one of the event organizers, told Hillsboro Rotarians on Tuesday that the event will be held from 5-11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Backroom Paradise, 6174 Miller Lane in New Market.

Lucas was injured Nov. 1 when he fell while putting up a deer stand.

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera said at the time that the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Lucas, who advised that while he was putting up a deer stand, the stand fell approximately 20 feet with Lucas in it.

Lucas, 36, said he was putting up his tree stand along Redkey Road in Concord Township when it fell from the tree.

The Southern Highland County Joint Fire District was called to the scene. The squad then called for UC Air Care from Mt. Orab. Lucas was flown to UC Hospital.

The benefit, billed as “Jobey’s Road to Recovery Banquet Buffet,” is to help Lucas and his family with expenses, and will include dinner and drinks, with a beef and pulled pork dinner served with sides and desserts.

The event will include live and silent auctions, gun raffles, split the pot, and games and raffles, including a raffle for a 2016 Honda FourTrax Rancher 4×4.

Those unable to attend can make a donation to: Jobey Lucas Benefit, 300 Chillicothe Ave., Hillsboro, Ohio, 45133.
