Two people lost their lives in a two-vehicle accident around 1 p.m. Friday on U.S. Route 50 between Allensburg and Dodsonville near Kier Road, according to emergency personnel.

An officer at the scene said the red car was westbound and apparently went off the right side of the road, came back on the road and slid sideways across the centerline where it was broadsided by a white van.

Emergency personnel said two people in the car were deceased. They said the driver of the van had minor injuries and was being treated by Lynchburg Area Joint Fire and Ambulance District personnel.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was investigating the accident. The highway remained closed from the time of the accident until about 5:30 p.m., according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
