A Greenfield man is heading to prison after pleading guilty in Highland County Common Pleas Court to his sixth OVI offense on Thursday.
Casey L. Saunders, 33, pled guilty to fourth-degree felony OVI. He was sentenced to a mandatory 60 days in jail, which is to run consecutively to an additional 16 months of prison. While this is his first felony conviction, it is Saunders’ sixth OVI conviction. According to the indictment, Saunders’ previous OVI convictions were in 2003, 2006, 2007, and two in 2011.
Saunders is to pay a $1,350 fine and his driver’s license is suspended for five years. According to the plea agreement, the state will not oppose judicial release to treatment after six months.
He is to begin serving his sentence on March 2, 2016.
In another hearing, Robert K. Wilson, 31, of Loveland, pled guilty to third-degree felony attempted burglary and was sentenced to a year in prison.
As previously reported when Wilson was indicted in December, he and 35-year-old Ted A. Kayata, Williamsburg, were the subject of numerous news stories in Cincinnati media outlets in September when they were indicted in connection with several burglaries in the area of Clermont County.
According to the list of current inmates in the Clermont County jail, Wilson is housed there and under a number of charges, including several burglary charges.
Kayata’s Highland County case, where he is also charged with third-degree felony attempted burglary, is still pending.
In other hearings this week, Robin E. Hooley, 31, Hillsboro, pled guilty to theft of drugs, a fourth-degree felony, and was granted intervention in lieu of conviction.
While Hooley is engaged in treatment through the intervention in lieu program, all further prosecution on her case halts, and if she successfully completes the intervention in lieu of conviction program, the felony charge against her will be dismissed.
Dawn Sharp, 25, Sardinia, failed to appear for a hearing on a motion to terminate her from intervention in lieu of conviction, which she was granted last May after pleading guilty to fifth-degree felony possession of heroin. A warrant was issued for her arrest.
