An early morning fire on Chillicothe Avenue in Hillsboro was contained to a bedroom Wednesday after firefighters arrived on the scene quickly and controlled the damage.

Paint Creek firefighters received a call at 3:37 a.m. of a fire at 159 Chillicothe Ave. in the vicinity of The Laurels.

Crews arrived on the scene within five minutes and found a structure fire including flames, according to Branden Jackman, public information officer for the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District.

“Everybody did a good job putting the fire out,” said Jackman. “It was far from a total loss.”

The fire was contained to the bedroom, although there was smoke and heat damage throughout the one-story home, said Jackman.

No one was at home at the time of the fire, said Jackman, and there were no injuries. The Lynchburg Fire Department provided mutual aid.

Jackman said the fire is of undetermined origin and remains under investigation.
