A Highland County man lost his life Friday in a tractor accident in southern Highland County, south of Sugar Tree Ridge.

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera said his office received a 911 call from Concord Township at 1:05 p.m. Friday with the caller stating that he had arrived at his father’s home, where he found his father deceased under a tractor and bush hog mower.

Deputies arrived on the scene and found that William Jones, 83, had been bush hogging his property at 6729 Pondlick Road and apparently struck a tree stump, throwing him from his tractor and pinning him beneath the tractor.

Scanner traffic indicated that Jones had been pinned under the tractor for a some time before he was found.

Barrera said Jones was found pinned in an area behind the back wheel of the tractor, but before the front of the bush hog.

Highland County Coroner M.D. Jeff Beery was called to the scene and pronounced Jones deceased, Barrera said.

The Southern Highland Joint Fire District from Mowrystown was dispatched to the scene, along with a life squad from Adams County and the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District from its Hillsboro station, according to Barrera.

The sheriff said that as of early Friday evening the investigation into the accident was still pending.
