Children can sing at FOB

The opening ceremony for the 2016 Festival of the Bells will include the National Anthem sung by a choir of school-aged children, grades 1-6. Any child who would like to be part of the choir is invited to attend practice at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21 at the Hillsboro Church of Christ. Each child should be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. Children should be familiar with the words to the “Star Spangled Banner” in order to participate. Care-A-Van schedule

The Care-A-Can Health Assessment Clinic will visit the following Hillsboro sites on Tuesday, June 21: Highland County Senior Citizens parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon and Kmart parking lot from 1-4 p.m.

Petting zoo, pony rides

A petting zoo hosted by Highland County Early Head Start and Head Start with animals to feed and pet and ponies to ride will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22 at Liberty Park in Hillsboro.

VFW ham and bean dinner

A ham and bean dinner will be served from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 24 at VFW Post 9094. The menu will include ham and beans, fried potatoes, cornbread and a soft drink. The cost is $7. The VFW 9094 Auxiliary is sponsoring the event. The post is located on West Main Street behind the Dairy Queen.

Election board closed June 21-23

The Highland County Board of Elections will be closed Tuesday, June 21 through Thursday, June 23 so the staff can attend the Secretary of State Summer Conference. The office will reopen on Friday, June 24. 2016 at 8:30 a.m.

Bright Local Board of Education

The Bright Local Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22 to consider employment of a public employee or official and set the date and time for a special meeting, if needed.

HHS Class of 1996 Reunion

The Hillsboro High School Class of 1996 20th Reunion will be held on Friday, June 24 at the Backroom Paradise located at 6164 Miller Ln. in Hillsboro. Admission is $10 per person and includes dinner and drinks. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. Additionally, a family picnic is planned for Sunday, June 26 at Serpent Mound Park beginning at 1 p.m. Admission is $8 per vehicle. The Southern Ohio Educational Service Center Governing Board will meet in special session at 6:30 p.m. June 21 at 3321 Airborne Road, Wilmington, for the following purpose: considering personnel matters.

HHS All Class Meet and Greet

A Hillsboro High School All Class Meet and Greet,sponsored by the class of 1981, will be held at Alley 21 Grille on Friday, June 24 beginning at 7 p.m. Local band Blue Steel will be playing. Create a faerie door

SPARK! Creative Artspace invites you to create your own faerie door at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at the SPARK! Studio. The cost is $15 ($10 for Spark and $5 for materials). Your creation can be placed wherever you choose, along a baseboard, beside your main entrance, a part of your front door, at the base of a tree, or as part of your garden landscape. The faerie workshop is open to adults and children, but young children will require the presence of an adult. Soup’s On Free meal

The Soup’s On free meal will served Saturday June 25 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and Praise is at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is served from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be teriyaki chicken and rice, macaroni salad, rolls, assorted desserts and drinks.

Open Door free meal

The Open Door free meal will be held at the Greenfield United Methodist Church on Saturday June 25. Sit-down serving will start at 4 p.m. The menu will be hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans and brownies. Everyone is welcome.

Sign language class

Tom Schluep and Molly Jordan will offer a class in the basics of American Sign Language for adults at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at Spark Creative Artspace, 251 Jefferson St., Greenfield. The class will last about two hours and costs $25.

HHS class of 1957 picnic

The Hillsboro High School class of 1957 will hold a picnic Saturday, June 25 at the Liberty Park Shelter House. Those attending should bring a dish of food. Table service, meat, tea, water and lemonade will be provided. Brush and Palette Art show

The Brush and Palette Art Guild will hold its 59th annual Art Show and Sale on Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26 from 1-5 p.m. both days on the central campus of Southern State Community College, 100 Hobart Dr., Hillsboro. On display and being judged by Richard Luschek II of Cincinnati will be work from both professional and non- professional artists. OSHIIP visiting senior center

The Ohio Department of Insurance will be at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 27 with the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program to discuss Medicare basics and signing up for help to pay for prescriptions. Fall Creek rummage/bake sale

The Fall Creek Ladies USFW will have a rummage/bake sale on Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The sale will be at the Fall Creek Church located at 11345 Karnes Rd.

Quilt show at HHS

The fifth annual quilt show is planned for July 8-9 at Hillsboro High School. County Quilters members are making the show bigger with more quilts, new demonstrations and vendors. Every year the show has benefited a local charity or a deserving program. The 2016 show profits go toward the Hillsboro City Schools Free Store Food Bank Power Pack program. VFW fish fry

Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 will hold an all-you-can-eat fish fry with a menu of fish, fries, slaw, hush puppies and a soft drink from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 8. The event is open to the public.

SSG Matt Maupin Memorial Ride

A police-escorted memorial ride for SSG Matt Maupin will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2016. Registration is from 9-11:30 a.m. at Glen Este High School, 4342 Glen Este-Withamsville Rd. Alzheimer’s/Dementia support group

The Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family and Caregiver Support Group held the first Monday of each month at Edgewood Manor, 850 Nellie St., Greenfield, from 5-6:30 p.m. will provide an opportunity for families and caregivers to learn and ask questions about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, while receiving support from others in similar situations. Programs are free of charge. Registration is encouraged.
