Hillsboro Finance Committee

The Hillsboro Finance Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 6 at the Hillsboro Firehouse, 204 N. East St., to discuss legislation to address transient vendors. The meeting is open to the public.

Financial workshop

Edward Jones financial adviser Mathew Greene of Hillsboro will host a financial workshop: Your Source for Financial Education. The four-week workshop will assist individuals in setting financial and investment goals. The workshop will be held July 7, 14, 21 and 28. Quilt show at HHS

The fifth annual quilt show is planned for July 8-9 at Hillsboro High School. County Quilters members are making the show bigger with more quilts, new demonstrations and vendors. Every year the show has benefited a local charity or a deserving program. The 2016 show profits go toward the Hillsboro City Schools Free Store Food Bank Power Pack program. VFW fish fry

Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 will hold an all-you-can-eat fish fry with a menu of fish, fries, slaw, hush puppies and a soft drink from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 8. The event is open to the public.

Mowrystown Ice Cream Supper

The annual Mowrystown Presbyterian Church Ice Cream Supper will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at the church. The menu includes sandwiches, chicken and noodles, salads, homemade pies and cakes, and the famous homemade ice cream.

Sprinkle family reunion

The Sprinkle family reunion will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 10 at the Denver Williams Memorial Park/Shelter, 69 N. South St. (SR 22), Wilmington. Property Maintenance Committee

The Hillsboro Property Maintenance and Restoration Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 11 at the Hillsboro Municipal Courtroom, 130 Homestead Ave., to discuss Colony Theatre demolition updates and blighted/nuisance residential properties. The meeting is open to the public.

Marshall Barnyard Roundup

The Marshall United Methodist Church invites children of all ages to the Barnyard Roundup from July 11-15, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Kids will learn about Jesus through five Bible stories, meet new friends, have fun activities, sing songs, make crafts, play games, eat snacks and more. Greene Countrie Baby Contest

The Greene Countrie Towne Festival annual Baby Contest, sponsored by Edgewood Manor, will be held Saturday, July 16 on a stage near the corner of Jefferson and Fourth streets. There is a $5 entry fee. The contest is open only to children with a birthday after July 15, 2009. Entry forms with fee must be mailed or returned to Edgewood Manor from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Entries will not be accepted past the deadline of 6 p.m. Friday, July 15. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 16 and judging will begin promptly at 9 a.m. Contestants will be judged on overall beauty and personality.

Inspirational concert

The Hillsboro Church of Christ, corner of Walnut and South West streets, will hold an inspirational sing-a-long concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 17 led by Thomas Mackey. All the songs are focused on a heavenly home and hope, accompanied by the sounds of mountain instruments – fiddle, banjo, guitar and hammered dulcimer. Everyone is invited. Mackey sang baritone in the church choir of the Cincinnati Bible Seminary for four years. He has served as a song evangelist and worship leader, as well as presented more than a dozen different themed programs, in churhes, assisted living centers and nursing homes in Ohio, and from Michigan to Florida and Maine to Texas.

SSG Matt Maupin Memorial Ride

A police-escorted memorial ride for SSG Matt Maupin will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2016. Registration is from 9-11:30 a.m. at Glen Este High School, 4342 Glen Este-Withamsville Rd. The cost is $20 per bike plus $5 for a passenger. There will be live music and lunch will be provided. Call 513-818-ARMY for more information.

All-you-can-eat food show

An all-you-can-eat US Food Show at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center is Wednesday, July 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fill your plate with new and favorite foods. The community is invited. Call the senior center at 393-4745 for more info.

Senior Center Hee Haw Show

The Highland County Senior Citizens Center Hee Haw Show is Saturday, July 30 with vocals and live bands performing favorite county classics along with comedy skits. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m. Advance tickets on sale now and are $8. Tickets at the door will be $10. Food will be available for purchase. The community is welcome. Alzheimer’s/Dementia support group

The Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family and Caregiver Support Group held the first Monday of each month at Edgewood Manor, 850 Nellie St., Greenfield, from 5-6:30 p.m. will provide an opportunity for families and caregivers to learn and ask questions about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, while receiving support from others in similar situations. Programs are free of charge. Registration is encouraged. Greenfield Rotary auction donations

The Greenfield Rotary Club, in preparation for the annual auction held during July’s Greene Countrie Towne Festival, is currently seeking donations for the auction. Items can include art pieces, toys, lawn furniture, bikes, antique items, crafted items, coupons for services from local businesses, and more. Cash can also be donated, and will be used to purchase items from local businesses to supplement the auction.
