Lynchburg Lions breakfast

The Lynchburg Lions Club will have its monthly pancake and sausage breakfast from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Lynchburg Lions Club/Gun Club Building on Sharpsville Road in Lynchburg. It will feature an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast plus other items such as sausage gravy and biscuits. The public is invited.

TouchPoint yard sale

TouchPoint will host its annual church yard sale Saturday, Sept. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will also include a cookout lunch, bake sale and free items. All proceeds will benefit the relocation fund. The church is located on the corner of South West Street and Park Avenue in Hillsboro. Donated items are being received Monday to Friday before 5 p.m. For more information call 937-763-1315.

Veterans program at fair

The 2016 Highland County annual Veterans Day Program featuring Major Kevin Barreras, U.S. Army retired, presented by AmVets Post 61, Hillsboro, will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5 in the Multi-Purpose Building. All veterans, families and friends are invited to attend the free program. AmVets Post 61 requests all area veterans service organizations to participate, be recognized and to bring their respective flags. Senior center fair special

The Highland County Senior Citizens Center is offering a “fair special” for membership. Purchase a 2017 membership and get the rest of 2016 free. Typical membership is $20 per year. Call 393-4745 for more details.

No immunization clinic

The Highland County Health Department will not have an immunization clinic on Monday, Sept. 5 in observance of Labor Day.

Care-A-Van will not run

The Highland County Health Department Care-A-Van will not run as regularly scheduled Tuesday, Sept. 6. Services will be provided from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the health department, 1487 N. High St., Suite 400, Hillsboro. If you have any questions, call the health department at 937-393-1941.

Public Employee Retirees

The Highland County Chapter of the Public Employee Retirees, Inc. meeting will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 at the Highland County Senior Citizen Center, 185 Muntz St., Hillsboro. The speaker will be Kendra Buford, with OSHIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance). All members and guests welcome.

Eagle Riders Poker Run

The Hillsboro Eagle Riders inaugural Poker Run to benefit the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 starting at the Hillsboro Eagles. Sign-in is from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Hillsboro Eagles, 126 Gov. Trimble Place, and the ride will start at noon. After the run there will be 50/50 drawings, an auction, raffles and live music provided by Private Issue. Food will be available through the Eagles’ kitchen. Indian Discount Cards

Members of the eighth grade class at Hillsboro Middle School will sell Indian Discount Cards to earn money for their Washington, D.C. trip. The discount cards sell for $10 each and offer savings at 17 local businesses as well many national offers which can be accessed online. The fundraiser will run from Aug. 23 to Sept. 27. To purchase a card see a member of the eighth grade class or contact Hillsboro Middle School at 937-393-9877.

Holiday Trails Association

The Holiday Trails Association will hold its annual meeting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at the shelter house.

Free screening mammograms

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Highland District Hospital and the Highland County Health Department are working together to offer free screening mammograms to those who are: female age 40 and over; have not had a mammogram in the past year; have no problem with either breast; have no insurance, limited insurance, or a high deductible. Mammograms will be done at HDH using its state of the art digital mammography unit. Clinic dates are: Friday, Sept. 16 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.; and Saturday, Sept. 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Preregistration is required. Call 937-393-1941 or email [email protected] for more information or to register. Remember, these are screening exams. If you are concerned about an existing breast lump or other issue, you may need to have a more detailed diagnostic exam done. A staff member will be available to determine if you need to need a diagnostic exam.

Homecoming Sunday

The Greenfield Church of Christ, 955 Jefferson St., will host a Homecoming Sunday on Sept. 18 starting at 10 a.m. A special worship service and a fellowship meal will follow. The guest speaker will be Denny Dawes. Everyone is welcome. If you plan on coming, call the church office at 937-981-2484 and let the church know know so it can have an approximate head count for food.

Fairfield meeting date change

The Fairfield Local School Board of Education has made a change to the time and location of its September meeting. It will begin at the new soccer/track complex at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, then move to the District Office Conference Room for the regular monthly meeting beginning at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Log Cabin Cookout

The Highland County Historical Society will hosts its Log Cabin Cookout at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at the back lawn surrounding log cabin behind the Highland House Museum in Hillsboro. The menu will include ham and beans, cornbread, applesauce, coleslaw, dessert and drinks. reservations can be made by calling 937-393-3392 by Monday, Sept. 19. Leave your name, phone number and the number of reservations requested. Donations will be accepted with proceeds used to pay utility and maintenance bills at the Highland House and Scott House.

Paint Creek Fire District

The Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District will hold a board meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 640 N. Washington St., Greenfield.

Celebrate Recovery

The Common Ground Community Church, 7406 Mad River Road, Hillsboro, is hosting Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered recovery group, every Friday. There is a meal at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m. For more information call 937-402-7693.

New Vienna Oktoberfest

The New Vienna Planning Committee is sponsoring the New Vienna Ohio 2016 Oktoberfest on Friday, Sept. 30 to Sunday, Oct. 2nd. There will be live music, draft beer, lots of food, and games for the kids. The annual 5K Buzzard Run is on Friday evening.
