Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of July 27 to Aug. 2 the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 383 911 calls, answered 170 requests for service, dispatched 151 fire and EMS runs, took 57 offense reports and investigated three traffic crashes.
The sheriff’s office received a call from a Mowrystown business at 4 p.m. July 27 after a customer’s car was struck and damaged in the parking lot. The suspect left the scene after the accident without stopping. A deputy responded to the location for a report and later located the suspect who was not aware he had damaged the other vehicle. No charges were filed.
A deputy was dispatched to a call of an unruly juvenile on Cathy Court at 12:05 a.m. on July 29. After the deputy arrived on the scene it was discovered that an assault had occurred and the juvenile was arrested for one count of domestic violence.
On July 30 at 4:04 p.m. a residentBrowning Road called the sheriff’s office to report her home had been broken into and items had been taken. Å deputy responded to the scene to collect evidence and take an offense report.
A 911 call was received at 1:46 p.m. on Aug. 2 from a residence on Brad Road where two brothers were allegedly in a fight. A deputy responded to the scene and arrested William E. Sweazy for one count of domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor; and Robert R. Sweazy for disorderly conduct and domestic violence, a misdemeanor of the fourth degree. Both are set to be arraigned Aug. 3 in Hillsboro Municipal Court.

ARRESTS
Jeremy Jones, 36, of Hillsboro, for driving under suspension and failure to appear.
Juvenile, age 17, for speed.
Jerry Carter, 49, of Hillsboro, for operating vehicle in the opposite direction.
ACCIDENTS
On Thursday, July 30 at 12:19 p.m. the police department responded to a motor vehicle crash. Mary Jackson, 49, of Batavia, was northbound on North High Street in the 300 block and was making a left turn into US Bank. Keely Bennington, 17, of Hillsboro, was also headed north on North High Street and was behind Jackson. Bennington advised that she looked down at her speed and when she looked up she could not get stopped in time and struck the rear of the vehicle driven by Jackson causing damage to both vehicles.
On Thursday, July 30 at 2:31 p.m. the police department responded to a motor vehicle crash. Jerry L. Carter, 49, of Hillsboro, was westbound on Uhrig Street when he became distracted and drifted to the left side. Carter’s vehicle then sideswiped a vehicle driven by Samantha Reffitt, 25, of Hillsboro, who was eastbound.
On Thursday, July 30 at 4:50 p.m. the police department responded to a motor vehicle crash with possible injuries in the 100 block of West Main Street. Upon officer arrival, it was found that Stephen Jacobs, of Hillsboro, was stopped eastbound on West Main Street. Hannah McGrew, of Sabina, was also eastbound on West Main Street and failed to observe Jacobs was stopped. McGrew struck the rear of the vehicle driven by Jacobs. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. A report was taken and McGrew was cited for assured clear distance.
On Friday, July 31 at 12:08 p.m. the police department responded to a motor vehicle crash. Dawn Crockett, 45, of Lynchburg, pulled into Cashland at 1105 Northview Drive, pulling up in front and then began backing up. This is when Donald Walker, 31, of Hillsboro, pulled into Cashland and observed the vehicle driven by Crockett. Walker stopped and Crockett continued backing into the vehicle driven by Walker.
