The Highland County Community Action Organization Inc. received a $1,000 donation on Nov. 19 from the Shopko Foundation to support the Senior Nutrition Program.
The Senior Nutrition Program is one of the many programs HCCAO provides. This program enables 60-plus years of age or housebound seniors throughout Highland County to receive a home-delivered meal daily each week. Currently, more than120 seniors who are utilizing this program.
For many seniors, the meal which they receive is the only meal they have that day. The driver who delivers the meals for some seniors may be the only visitor they see that day.
“The rising costs of food, gasoline, vehicle and facility maintenance and general operating increases have resulted in increased expenses,” said Julia Wise, executive director of HCCAO. “The organization has had to provide some supplemental funding to keep this program operational. This funding received from the Shopko Foundation will be dedicated towards continuing the operations of the Senior Nutrition Program.”
The HCCAO strives to empower individuals and families through opportunities and support to achieve their maximum potential.
