State Sen. Bob Peterson (R-17th Dist.) was in Hillsboro on Monday to meet with local leaders as the capital budget bill is being prepared.
Highland County Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer, Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings, Southern State Community College President Kevin Boys and YMCA board president Tim Hughes were present for a meeting at the county administration building.
The budget is prepared every two years, and Peterson and State Rep. Cliff Rosenberger (R-91st Dist.) have been garnering input at the local level.
Suggestions for funding on Monday included needs at Turning Point Applied Learning Center, repairs at the Hi-Tec Center, and a trails project allowing better walking access from the uptown area to northern points in Hillsboro, including the hospital, the college and the YMCA.
Peterson urged officials to agree on the top one or two priorities that would have the best chance of making it into the budget.
Peterson is meeting with representatives across his district, which includes all or parts of 10 counties. He said he was scheduled to be in four more counties on Tuesday.
