A suspected methamphetamine lab was discovered Wednesday at a rural location south of Hillsboro.

Highland County Sheriff Richard Warner said that at around 1 a.m. his office received a call reporting that a possible meth lab had been found inside a barn in the 5000 block of Muhlbach Road. Deputies responded to the scene where they met a male who had discovered what he believed to be a meth lab.

The male said he had been on the property doing some work for the owner when a plastic tote was found inside the barn. Deputies viewed the contents of the tote and identified them as a non-operational meth lab, Warner said.

The lab was neutralized by the sheriff’s office.

No charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon and the case remains under investigation.
