Rick Earley, who was a part of the Hillsboro City School system for thirty years, was recently hired as superintendent for the Valley View School District in Germantown.
“I realized I wasn’t ready to retire,” Earley said of the position in Montgomery County. “I still felt I had energy to give.”
Earley retired in January, after having been superintendent of Hillsboro City Schools for three-plus years.
“But I guess he’s not ready to hang it up,” school board member Sam Barnhouse said.
According to Earley, “Sometimes you think you’re ready to retire, then you get a little itch.”
Barnhouse said that while the Hillsboro school system “hated to see him go,” the Valley View School District is getting “a dandy in Rick.”
“I think they’ve got a good person for the job,” he said. “He certainly did good by us.”
Earley said the district in Germantown is smaller, which will mean he will have less “support personnel.”
“But being a superintendent is being a superintendent regardless of where you’re at,” he added.
According to the Dayton Daily News, Earley signed a three-year contract with the Valley View School system. He will begin serving as the district’s superintendent on Aug. 1.
