A Hillsboro man is charged with robbery after an alleged attempt to leave Walmart with a cart of merchandise without paying, allegedly striking a loss prevention associate, and fleeing the scene, according to information released by the Hillsboro Police Department.
The male subject, later identified as Nicholas A. Brown, 27, attempted to run when he was approached by loss prevention personnel at Walmart, and in the attempt to flee, the associate was “physically struck” by the suspect, HPD reported.
According to HPD, Brown fled the scene toward a wooded area located near Walmart. Officers were dispatched and Brown was apprehended.
Brown is charged with second-degree felony robbery and is currently in custody at the Highland County Justice Center.
He was arraigned on Wednesday morning in the Hillsboro Municipal Court. A preliminary hearing is set for May 8. Bond was set at O.R. (own recognizance); however, there is also a $10,000 bond set on a probation violation, according to the court’s records.
In addition, he is prohibited from having contact with Walmart.
