The South Central Ohio League duals have begun. Washington and McClain got to open the duals a day earlier than the rest of the SCOL; they wrestled on Wednesday and the rest of the league starts league action on Thursday. The home team gets to invite a third team of their choice if the league matchup is for a dual and not a tri. The Blue Lions went big and invited the returning state championship tournament team, the Troy Christian Eagles. MHS entered the night at 5-4 and would have to pull out some big wins to remain a winning team on this night. The Tigers fought their way back from eighteen point deficits twice in the their first matchup of the night against TC. McClain put a major notch in their belt by defeating the state champions by a narrow margin 42-39. In the final match of the night, Washington defeated MHS by a score of 58-15. The Tiger’s season record is now 6-5 in duals and 0-1 in the SCOL.
Three Tigers won both of their matches: Dillon Hunick (145), Jake Badgley (152), and Dylan Trefz (285). Trefz is the first MHS wrestler this year to eclipse the 20 win mark on the season, he is currently 21-4. Splitting even on the night with a win and a loss was: Kylee Stroud (106), Charlie Davis (132), Ethan Paul (160/170), and Jarrett Milnes (220). Five Tigers wrestled hard but was unable to secure a victory, losing both matches: Conner Morarity (113/120), Kalab Smith (126), Jason Flowers (138), Lucas Unger (182), and Gable Smith (195).
The varsity and jv squads will be back in action next Wednesday when they travel to Cincinnati North College Hill to square off against the Trojans. The third team in the tri match will be Summit Country Day. Following these matchups on Wednesday, they will return to SCOL duals the following day, Thursday, in Hillsboro. Paint Valley will be the third team completing in this tri matchup.
