October is the start of our busy holiday season here at the Leesburg Branch Library. We hope our young readers ages 3 through sixth grade will sign up for our Jingle Books reading program starting on Thursday, Oct. 1. Come in and register to learn about the rules and get your reading log. Upon completion of your log you will receive a ticket to attend our Jingle Books Day at the Leesburg Library on Saturday, Dec. 5.

We will have a Trick or Treat Bag Decorating Contest this month for kids and teens. Paper bags will be available for pick-up at our front desk starting Oct. 1. Decorate your bag using any medium (paint, markers, feathers, etc.), you choose. Write your name and phone number on the bottom of the bag and turn it in by Friday, Oct. 19. Prizes will be awarded.

Knit Together continues to meet Thursdays from 5:30-7 p.m. Feel free to join the fun.

On Monday, Oct. 5 the Leesburg Library will host local author Kristina Thomas for a book signing and discussion at 6 p.m. Her guests for the evening will be Paige Jullierat, Jody Gulley and Andrea Beasley. Copies of “Living Free” will be available for purchase at the library.

Our Sparx Teen Book Group will meet Thursday, Oct. 8 from 5:30-7 p.m. Join us for food and some frightfully good fun. The book being discussed is “Not a Drop to Drink” by Mindy McGinnis. All Leesburg area teens in the seventh grade and up are invited to attend.

The library will be closed Monday, Oct. 12 in observance of Columbus Day. Please use our outdoor book drop to return items.

Our adult book group, RRR will have a lunch outing this month at the Rusty Keg in Washington C.H on Thursday, Oct. 15. Members are to meet at the restaurant at 11:30 a.m.

We hope you will be able to Trick or Treat with us Thursday, Oct. 29 from 6-7 p.m. Please note that we are closed during the last hour of Beggar’s Night, so if you want to get some treats from the library, you will need to arrive prior to 7 p.m.

Storytimes continue every Thursday at 10 a.m. for Wee Ones and 10:30 a.m. for Tater Tots. Our themes this month include Bee Sweet with Honey, Fire Prevention, Grouch Day, Pet Parade (bring your favorite stuffed animal) and Happy Halloween (wear a costume). Stop by our front desk or call us with questions about our fun storytimes.

We look forward to your stopping by the Leesburg Library this month for some spine-tingling fun. See you soon.
