Open Door free meal

The Open Door free meal at the Greenfield United Methodist Church will be held Saturday, Oct. 31. Eat-in serving is at 4 p.m. The menu will be chili, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, crackers and apple sauce.

Fall Festival

The Living Water Faith and Fellowship Fall Festival will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 at 5846 SR 138, Hillsboro. There will be food, hayrides, games and candy. Call 937-446-1416 if you have any questions.

Senior center Halloween party

The Highland County Senior Citizens Center’s annual Halloween party, indoor trick-or-treat and haunted house is Saturday, Oct. 31st. Indoor trick-or-treating is 6-8 p.m. and haunted house is 6-9 p.m. There will be costume contests for children and adults, games, raffles, free food and more. Admission is $1 per person. Sewing quilts class

Master quilter Jayne Honnold is returning to Spark Creative Artspace this month with an all-day instructional class in sewing quilts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. honnold will stay until the last student has completed their project. The cost of the class is $40 per person and payment will be at the door by cash or personal check. Autumn Fest

The Rainsboro Elementary School Autumn Fest will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. There will be games such as ring toss, a cake walk, food and goodies, prince and princess contests, raffles, a live auction, bingo and a haunted office.

Collection for books

The Hillsboro Area Branch of the American Association Women and Altrusa are preparing for their annual book sale. Barrels for the collection of gently used books have been placed in the Leesburg, Greenfield, Lynchburg and Hillsboro libraries, in addition to Kroger, Community Market and the YMCA in Hillsboro. The book sale will be held at the Highland County Administration Building in Hillsboro on Thursday, Nov. 5 from noon to 6 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds provide local scholarships for women returning to school and literacy projects.

Harvest dinner

The Sonner Chapel United Methodist Church will hold a covered dish harvest dinner at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1. Bring a covered dish. Turkey, ham and drinks will be provided. For more information, contact Barbara Shoemaker 937-205-2604.

Immunizations clinic

A clinic for immunizations only will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 2-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2 at the Highland County Health Department, 1487 N. High St., Suite 400, Hillsboro.

Care-A-Van Health at Walmart

The Care-A-Van Health Assessment Clinic will visit the Walmart parking lot in Hillsboro from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Retired Teachers Association meeting

The Highland County Retired Teachers Association will hold its November meeting and luncheon at the Highland County Senior Center, 185 Muntz St., Hillsboro, on Monday, Nov. 2. Social hour begins at 11 a.m.; lunch ($8) is served at noon. All retired teachers are welcome. Reservations may be made by calling 937-393-4951 by Monday, Oct. 26. On the program for November is Tamilla Cole, who will update members on STRS health insurance for 2016. David White, choral director at Hillsboro High School, with some of his students will present a musical program. Donations of paper goods for Samaritan Outreach are requested for the November meeting.

Election Day dinner at the Sinking Spring Community Church

The Sinking Spring Community Church, Women in Ministry, will have an Election Day dinner on Nov. 3 in the Fellowship Hall of the church from 11 a.m. until sold out. A freewill donation will be accepted. The menu will consist of chicken and noodles, ham and bean soup, cornbread, ham sandwiches, hot dogs, coneys, sloppy joes, cole slaw, variety of desserts, and ice tea, lemonade, water or coffee. The WIMs will also have a bake sale, craft and white elephant sale that day.

Prospect UMC hosting Election Day dinner

The will have an Election Day dinner on Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Soups, sandwiches, cornbread, slaw, desserts and drinks will be available for a freewill donation. Everyone is welcome.

Election Day dinner at the Greater Life Assembly Church

Greater Life Assembly, 12145 North Shore Drive, will hold an Election Day Dinner from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m Tuesday, Nov. 3. The menu will include chicken and dumplings and beef and noodles, and will be available for a freewill donation eat-in or carry-out.

Bloodmobile in Greenfield

A Bloodmobile will be in Greenfield from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4 at the Paint Creek Joint EMS/ Fire District building, 640 Washington St. Donors can call 1-800-RED CROSS or go to redcrossblood.org to schedule an appointment. Fall revival

The New Hope Baptist Church, 128 E. Beech St., Hillsboro, will hold its fall revival Nov. 4-6. The theme will be From Jesus’ Point of View. Services begin at 7 p.m. and the Rev. Tyrone Lawes will the speaker. There will be a nightly musical guest. Everyone is welcome.

Veteran’s Day program at the senior center

The Highland County Senior Citizens Center annual Veteran’s Day program and dinner is Friday, Nov. 6 from 5-7 p.m. The community is encouraged to attend to honor veterans. Veterans’ dinners will be free; all non-veterans’ dinners will be $5. All proceeds from the event will be donated to a local organization to support Highland County veterans in need. World Community Day celebration

World Community Day 2015 will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 6 at the Highland United Methodist Church beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a carry-in dinner. The theme will be Our Journey Together, bringing women together from different cultural backgrounds to share the stories of their Christian journey. For more information call Valeta at 393-5099.

Evening of wine and art

Spark Creative Artspace is teaming up with the McClain High School Varsity Cheerleader Boosters for an adult evening of wine and art. The date is Friday, Nov. 6 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Cost of the event is $40 per person with a good percentage going to help the Tiger cheerleaders purchase uniforms and equipment. The Harwood Christian Church, corner of SR 131 and SR 134, will hold its annual eat-in or carry-out chili supper from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. All-you-can-eat fish fry

Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 will host an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4:3o to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. The cost is $8 and the menu includes fish, fries, slaw, hush puppies and soft drinks. The event is open to the public.

Harvest Festival

The Buckskin Elementary Harvest Festival will be held Saturday, Nov. 7 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. The annual event consists of a raffle, an auction, a chicken and noodle dinner, games, crafts, door prizes, and a king/queen, prince/princess, and little prince/little princess pageant. The money raised allows the Buckskin P.T.O. to pay for assemblies, Super Games, academic incentive programs, discipline incentive programs, roller skating parties, special projects, and field trips.

Annual birthday/Veterans Day event

The Samantha Friends Church, corner of U.S. Route 62 and Fall Creek Road, invites the public to its annual birthday/Veterans Day at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, when the church also celebrates its 203rd birthday. Breakfast in Sardinia

The George A. Lambert American Legion/Auxiliary Unit 755 of Sardinia will serve breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. The menu will feature sausage, pancakes, sausage gravy, biscuits, juice, coffee, milk and tea. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 10. There will also be a 50/50 raffle (winner does not need to be present) tickets sold for a quilt raffle with the drawing held at the Legion Family Christmas Dinner, Dec, 6, 2015.

Also, monthly euchre parties are held the second Saturday night of each month at 6 p.m. Token prizes are awarded. The cost is $1.50 per person to play. Food and drinks are available. All proceeds from the events will benefit veterans. For more information, call 937-442-4704.

Veterans Day program at Bright Elementary

The students and staff at Bright Elementary School invite the community to a Veterans Day program at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11. The students will show their patriotism and appreciation to veterans through song, readings, and art. All veterans and members of the community are invited to attend. Craft bazaar

The Hillsboro Free Will Baptist Church, 6360 U.S. Route 50, will host a craft bazaar Saturday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Origami Owl, Scentsy, Tastefully Simple and 31 are a few of the vendors along with several crafters with handmade items. Lunch will be available. Everyone is invited.
