Hillsboro Board of Ed. special session

The Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education will meet in special session at 7:30 a.m. Monday, June 22 at Hillsboro High School Conference Room 1, 550 U.S. Route 62. The purpose of the meeting is for a board work session and possible executive session.

Immunizations clinic

There will be a clinic for immunizations only from 1-4 p.m. Monday, June 22 at the Highland County Health Department, 1487 N. High St., Hillsboro.

Vacation Bible School

The Northview Baptist Church will be holding a Vacation Bible School on June 22 through 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is for ages 5 -12.

Free bag lunches

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 234 N. High St., Hillsboro, will hand out free bag lunches to all children every Monday from 11:13 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. until school starts back up. There is not paperwork or a charge for these lunches. This is a ministry of the church to the young people of the community. Take out will be available and all children are welcome. Care-A-Van at Rocky Fork Truck Stop

The Care-A-Van Health Assessment Clinic, a cooperative service brought to you by the Highland County Health Department and Highland District Hospital, will visit the Rocky Fork Truck Stop near Rainsboro from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23.

Bright Local Board of Ed. meeting

The Bright Local Board of Education will hold its next regular meeting at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 24 at Bright Elementary School.

HHS class of 1957 picnic

The Hillsboro High School class of 1957’s annual picnic will be held June 27 at the Liberty Park Shelter in Hillsboro. The meal will begin at 1 p.m. Table service, meat, water, tea and lemonade will be provided. Bring a dish to share and lots of good stories. Board of Elections closed June 26

The Highland County Board of Elections would like to notify the public that the office will be closed Friday, June 26 while the staff attends the Secretary of State Summer Conference. It will reopen Monday, June 29.

Family Fun & Movie Night

The Leesburg United Methodist Church will present its first Family Fun & Movie Night of 2015 on Friday, June 26. This free event will feature the movie “Paddington.” Activities will begin at 7 p.m. on the grounds of LUMC, located at 117 Church Street in Leesburg. Bring your own blankets or lawn chairs. Movie begins at sunset. All minors must be accompanied by a parent/adult for the evening. There will be fun activities, hot dogs, popcorn, sodas, and cookies. There will also be a free drawing for a movie package for a family of four at Star Cinemas in Hillsboro.

Other upcoming free movie nights at LUMC are scheduled for:

• Friday, July 17, -“Big Hero 6.” Activities begin at 8 pm, and the movie starts at sunset.

• Friday, Aug. 7 – “The Muppets Most Wanted.” Activities begin at 8 p.m., and the movie starts at sunset.

A rain date is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21. Activities will begin at 8 p.m., and the movie will start at sunset.

Former Hillsboro school employees reunion

All former Hillsboro High School/Middle School employees in grades 7-12 (administrators, teachers, custodians, secretaries, aides, cooks, etc.) and their spouses are invited to a summer reunion and luncheon at the new high school/middle school on Saturday, July 11 from 1-4 p.m. Reservations may be made by sending a $15 check (per person) to Beverly Rhoads, 217 W. Walnut St., Hillsboro, Ohio 45133 by June 27. The reunion committee is also collecting email addresses of any high school/middle school staff so that this notice can be sent. Soup’s On free meal

The Soup’s On free meal will be served Saturday, June 27 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and praise begin at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is served, eat-in only, from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be smoked sausages on a bun, baked beans, potato salad, assorted desserts and drinks.

Open Door free meal

The Open Door free meal at the Greenfield Methodist Church will be held Saturday, June 27. Eat-in serving is from 4 to 4:30 p.m. The menu will be hot dogs, potato chips, baked beans and dessert.

Art Show

The Brush and Palette Art Guild Annual Show will be held from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28 at the Southern State Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive in Hillsboro. There will be refreshments. Admission and parking are free.

L-C Board of Ed. meeting

The Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 30 board of education building.

Quilters of Highland County annual show

The Quilters of Highland County will hold their annual show July 1 and August 31 at the Hillsboro Elementary School. Guests are invited to display their quilts. In addition to the quilt displays there will be door prizes, a silent auction, vendors and special booths. A quilt will be raffled off. All proceeds will go to a local organization that helps families in the county. For more information or a form to share a quilt, call Darlene Prosek at 937-393-3031.

Rummage/bake sale

The Fall Creek ladies of the USFW will have a rummage/bake sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. The church is located at 11345 Karnes Rd., Hillsboro.

4-H project judging

On Tuesday, July 7 all 4-H food and nutrition, clothing and textiles, health, child development, money management, genealogy, home furnishing, creative arts projects and several special interest projects will be judged at Hillsboro Elementary School. Judging begins at 9 a.m. Family & Consumer Sciences 4-H advisers will have complete judging schedules. All members should have received a postcard with the web link to the judging schedule. Club members with questions should check with their advisers or call the Highland County Extension Office at 937-393-1918.

If it is impossible for a member to attend judging, call the Extension Office for an appointment to complete makeup judging on July 15. Late projects will be graded, but are not eligible for outstanding awards.

4-H Style Revue and Awards Night

The annual 4-H Style Revue and Awards Night will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9 at the Hillsboro Elementary School. 4-H members will be modeling their clothing outfits that were judged on July 8. This is always one of the highlights of the 4-H year. All summer judged 4-H project awards will be presented during the July 9 program.

The top models will be chosen at the Style Revue on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 2:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Building during the fair. There will not be an awards program at the Highland County Fair for the summer judged 4-H projects.

8 Days a Week at Senior Center

The Beatles tribute band, 8 Days a Week, a professional band and show, will play a live concert at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center on Saturday, July 11. Doors open and event begins at 6 p.m. The community is encouraged to attend this fundraising event. Tickets are on sale now at the senior center and Merchants National Bank (main branch) and are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Dinner is included. Call the center for more details at 393-4745.
