Spark canvas event
Spark Creative Artspace will hold a canvas event from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10 at 251 Jefferson St., Greenfield. The fee is $30 for those 18 and over and $25 for younger participants and will include a stretched canvas, use of all Spark supplies, refreshments, and professional guidance and assistance. Registration may be made by mailing a check to Spark Creative Artspace, P.O. Box 325, Greenfield, Ohio 45123. Include your name, phone number, and email address. Checks must be received by Jan. 8. Zoning meeting on residential space
The Hillsboro City Council and Hillsboro Planning Commission will hold a joint public hearing at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11 in the Hillsboro Municipal Court at 130 Homestead Drive to hear comments on a proposed zoning amendment to the Historic Business G Zoning Code prohibiting first floor residential space. Hillsboro City Council will meet at 7 p.m. following the public hearing.
Liberty Township organizational meeting
The Liberty Township Trustees will have their 2016 organizational meeting at the township building, 95 Moore Road, Hillsboro, at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan 11. The trustees are James Grove, John McLaughlin and Ron Ward. Jolene Walker is the fiscal officer.
Fairfield board meeting
The Fairfield Local Schools Board of Education will hold its annual organizational meeting and budget hearing in the District Office Conference Room, followed by the regular meeting, Monday, Jan. 11. The organizational meeting is at 6 p.m., budget hearing at 6:15 p.m. and regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Planning commission meeting
The Hillsboro Planning Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12 in the Hillsboro Firehouse Community Room at 204 N. East St. for the annual organizational meeting.
Paint Creek board meeting
The Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District will hold a regular board meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 640 N. Washington St., Greenfield. The meeting will include an executive session to discuss personnel matters to consider the employment, appointment, promotion and/or compensation of public employees.
Lynchburg board meeting
The Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education will hold its organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12 at board offices followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m.
Election board closed Jan. 12-15
The Highland County Board of Elections will be closed Jan. 12-15 so that the staff can attend the OAEO Winter Conference. The office will reopen Monday, Jan. 11 at 8:30 .am.
Emergency sirens will be tested
On Wednesday, Jan. 13 at noon the city of Hillsboro will perform a test of its emergency sirens. Call 393-5219 with any questions and/or concerns.
Bright Local meetings
The Bright Local Board of Education will hold its annual tax budget hearing, organizational meeting, and its regular meeting on Jan. 14 at 6:45 p.m. at Whiteoak High School.

The Trautwein Cemetery Association will hold its yearly meeting Jan. 14 at the Clark Township Building in Martinsville.
Hillsboro School Board meetings
The regular board meeting for January is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20 at the board office. A finance committee meeting will be held at the board office at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18.
Greenfield church serving dinner
The First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield will serve dinner on Sunday, Jan. 21 from noon to 1 p.m. The menu will be beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans or peas, a variety of salads, desserts, rolls and drinks. The cost of the meal is a suggested donation of $8. Kids 12 and under are free. Carry-out will be available.
Ag is Everyone’s Business
Tickets are on sale for the Highland Chamber of Commerce’s annual Ag is Everyone’s Business featuring John Phipps, who appears regularly in Farm Journal and Top Producer magazines as a contributing editor. The event will be held at 8 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22 at the Southern State Community College Patriot Center in Hillsboro. Tickets are $15 and include breakfast.
St. Mary School open house
St. Mary Catholic School and Patch of Heaven Preschool will have an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24. Visitors can meet the teachers, tour the school and see what the school has to offer. All faiths are welcome. The school offers three classes of all-day preschool; 3-year-olds, early 4s, and kindergarten prep. The elementary offers kindergarten through fifth grade. Registrations are being accepted for the 2016-17 school year. The school is located at 119 E. Walnut St. in Hillsboro.
SOESC Waddell Scholarship meeting
The Southern Ohio Educational Service Center Governing Board will have the Waddell Scholarship Committee Meeting at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26 at the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center, 3321 Airborne Road, Wilmington. Soup’s On free meal
The Soup’s On free meal will be held Saturday. Jan. 30 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and praise will be at 4:30 p.m. and dinner served from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be chili and crackers, pimento cheese sandwiches, applesauce and assorted desserts and drinks. The meal is served eat-in only.
Open Door free meal
The next Open Door free meal at the Greenfield United Methodist Church will be on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016.
Spark Souper Bowl Sunday
Spark Creative Artspace will hold a pre-Super Bowl gathering called Souper Bowl Sunday on Jan. 31. For a price of $15 participants will receive a handmade ceramic stoneware bowl and will be able to enjoy a selection of all the homemade soups, cornbread, and beverages they wish. Food will be served at Spark’s studios, 251 Jefferson St., Greenfield, from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. A special children’s price will be available for kids 15 and under. It will not include a ceramic bowl. Payment will be at the door with cash, check or credit card.
Farm Toy Show in Mowrystown
The Mowrystown FFA Alumni and Mowrystown FFA will host a Farm Toy Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 at Whiteoak High School. The buy, sell, trade or display event is endorsed by the Southwestern Ohio Farm Toy Tractor Club. Admission is $2 and includes a raffle ticket for a FFA tractor. Display tables can be rented for $10. Concessions will be available. Set up starts at 6:30 a.m. the day of the show. All funds raised will benefit the Mowrystown FFA. Commemorative McClain cards
Sets of note cards made for the McClain centennial celebration are available for purchase. Each set is $5 and includes four cards depicting historical scenes and items relating to McClain. A color, commemorative post card is also included. Sets are available at the Greenfield schools central office and at The Times-Gazette.
Health board meetings
The 2016 Highland County Health Department Board meetings will be held at 4:30 p.m. the third Monday of each month. If Monday falls on a holiday, meetings will be held on the following Tuesday.
HDH board meetings
The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors meets in 2016 on the last Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the hospital boardroom. Meeting schedules for specific committees can be obtained by contacting Melinda Russell at 393-6101.
Social media classes
Southern Hills Career and Technical Center has a class to introduce you to the use of different types of social media such as Facebook and Twitter. This course will teach you how to create personal pages, business pages, upload pictures and much more. The Social Media classes begin Jan. 4 and will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. for three consecutive weeks at the Southern Hills Career Center, 9193 Hamer Road, Georgetown.
