Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Feb. 22-28 the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 243 911 calls, answered 179 requests for service, dispatched 118 fire and EMS runs, took 33 offense reports and investigated five traffic crashes.

At 12:10 a.m. on Feb. 22 a resident of White Oak Township called the sheriff’s office to report a suspicious vehicle with a loud exhaust traveling back and forth on Wildcat Road. A deputy patrolling the area located a vehicle matching the vehicle’s description and initiated a traffic stop. During the traffic stop illegal drugs and several drug related items were recovered. Two males were taken into custody and transported to the Highland County Justice Center. Travis A. Tracey, of Hillsboro, and Aaron Senters, of Lewis Center, were arrested on charges ranging from tampering with evidence and possession of drugs to possession of a drug abuse instrument and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Feb. 23 an anonymous citizen called the sheriff’s office at 4:30 a.m. to report a possible domestic violence incident that occurred at a Panhandle Road residence several hours earlier. Deputies responded to the scene where a female with obvious visible injuries was located. A male suspect was detained while further investigation of the circumstances was performed. The suspect, Brandon K. Doughman, was arrested for one count of domestic violence.

Telecommunications harassment charges have been filed on a female suspect stemming from an incident that took place on Feb. 28 in Paint Township. The victim called the sheriff’s office at 1:11 a.m. to report receiving multiple harassing phone calls, text messages and social media posts from the suspect. Despite being told by deputies to stop the communication the suspect persisted in the behavior. The complainant met with a deputy at the Highland County Justice Center and an offense report was completed.
