Hillsboro AAUW applications

The Hillsboro Area AAUW is accepting applications for its 2016 scholarships. The applicant must be a current resident of the Highland County area and must have resided in the county for at least two years. The scholarships are awarded to nontraditional female students whose education has been interrupted or delayed. Applications are available at the libraries in Highland County. Leesburg flushing hydrants

The village of Leesburg will flush its water hydrants on Monday, April 18 and Thursday, April 21. Residents are advised to refrain from washing white clothes those days.

Immunization clinic

A clinic for immunizations only will be held from 1-4 p.m. Monday, April 18 at the Highland County Health Department, 1487 N. High St., Suite 400, Hillsboro.

Belfast Cemetery Association

The Belfast Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at the May Hill Church of Christ, U.S. Route 770, Peebles, on Tuesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. Anyone interest in the upkeep of the cemetery is welcome to attend.

North Joint Fire District

Highland County North Joint Fire/Ambulance District Board will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 at 200 South St., Leesburg.

Care-A-Van schedule

The Care-A-Van Health Assessment Clinic, a cooperative service brought to you by the Highland County Health Department and the Highland District Hospital, will visit the Senior Citizen Center in Hillsboro from 9 a.m. to noon and the Kmart parking lot in Hillsboro from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19.

Special Hillsboro council meeting

A special meeting of Hillsboro City Council is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 at the Municipal Court, 130 Homestead Drive, Hillsboro, to address settlement legislation regarding CH2M Hill and legislation for an increased appropriation for the police department. The meeting is open to the public, but no other business will be conducted.

Hillsboro School Board

The Hillsboro City School Board of Education will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at the board office, 39 Willettsville Pike. The finance committee will meet at 9 a.m. Monday, April 18 in the treasurer’s office, 39 Willettsville Pike.

Lynchburg School Board

The Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21 at the Board of Education Building.

Serpent Mound volunteers needed

Serpent Mound will hold a Volunteer Training Day from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at the shelter house on the park grounds. Volunteers are needed whether than they can help one day a year or 100 for school group education, guided tours of Serpent Mound, outside park improvements and nature trail maintenance. New Directions Silent Auction

New Directions Silent Auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at the Trinity Christian Union Church, 1200 N. Washington St., Greenfield. For more information or to donate an item, call Becky Anderson at 937-876-9162.

New Hope Church songfest

The New Hope Baptist Church Inspirational Choir will host a songfest at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at 128 E. Beech St. Everyone is welcome.

Running With The Pack 5K

A Running With The Pack 5K walk, run or roll at Liberty Park in Hillsboro will be held Saturday, April 23 to benefit Hillsboro Cub Scout Pack 37. Registration is $25 and begins at 8:30 a.m. The event starts at 9 a.m. Contact Wendy at 937-218-1973 for additional information.

Greenfield Presbyterian dinner

The First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield will serve dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24. The menu will be beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, a variety of salads, desserts and drinks. The cost of the meal is a suggested donation of $8. Children 12 and under are free. Carry-out will be available.

Open Door free meal

The Open Door free meal at the Greenfield United Methodist Church will be held Saturday, April 30. Eat-in only serving is from 4 to 4:30 p.m. The menu will be ham, hash brown casserole, corn and pudding.

Soup’s On free meal

The Soup’s On free meal will be served Saturday, April 30 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and praise is at 4:30 p.m. Dinner is served 5-6 p.m. The menu will be vegetable soup with crackers, pimento cheese sandwiches, fruit cocktail, assorted desserts and drinks. The meal is served eat-in only.

Retired teachers host HHS choir

The Hillsboro High School Symphonic Choir and director David White will be featured at the May 2 meeting of the Highland County Retired Teachers Association held at the Hillsboro Senior Citizens Center. Social hour is 11 a.m. to noon, the luncheon is at noon, and then the program. To honor Mother’s Day, the community service effort willbe a money tree for the Southern Ohio Pregnancy Center. Red Hat Society Spring Fling

The local Red Hat Society will host its annual Hillsboro Spring Fling from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 26 at the Highland County Senior Citizen Center, 185 Muntz St., Hillsboro. The event is for Red Hat members only, but if you are interested in becoming a member you can register at the door for $20. For more information call 937-403-6424.

Candle fundraiser for shelter

The Highland County Homeless Shelter has teamed up with Camelot Farms Candles for an April fundraiser. Orders are due by April 30 and order forms can be sent to [email protected].
